Both Roulette and Blackjack are some of the longest-standing, most popular casino games to date – with many casinos offering both the games – alongside many others – as part of the incredible experience. Whilst Blackjack offers a thrilling race to 21, and Roulette has an edge-of-your-seat anticipation whilst you watch the table spin – both games boast the potential to win big payouts, all whilst enjoying the buzz of the casino.
Read on to find out which of the two games best suits your gameplay, so that when you next visit a casino – either online or on-land – you’ll know just what table you prefer to sit at.
Roulette
Roulette has continued to grow in popularity since the first known game came to surface in 18th century France. Since then, casinos and players alike have found new ways to add to the thrill of the game – by adding extra balls, varying the power behind the spins, and – in the case of American Roulette – an extra green pocket featuring two zeros, to spice up the playing odds.
Playing the game is pretty simple – you place your bets on the table and the dealer spins the wheel, whilst a ball spins round in the opposite direction. Winnings are then calculated in relation to your bets and whatever pocket the ball has landed in.
Roulette is a game of luck, so to play, you must not only be familiar with the wheel, but know just what to look out for at the table you’re at. For a beginner, we recommend European Roulette – as with one less pocket – the game offers slightly better odds. It’s also a good idea to bet on the house edge, with odd/even, red/black bets.
The game offers plenty of excitement, and is available both online and on-land, so it’s no wonder that the anticipation of watching the wheel spin round brings a sort of adrenalin you can’t find anywhere else!
Blackjack
Just like Roulette, Blackjack dates back far into the pages of the history books. Originally known in France as Vingt-et-Un, which translates to twenty-one – the game dates back as early as the 1700s.
The card-based game usually features multiple decks of cards, with players being dealt an initial two from this. The idea is that you try and get as close to the value of 21 (before the dealer) as possible – and with an ace’s potential value of one or 11 being left to decide by the player, the game requires a fair amount of skill, as well the usual amounts of luck. All picture cards (Jacks, Queens and Kings) are worth ten, and all other cards their face value.
Generally, the cards are shuffled and then cut, with some cards left out of play. This will prevent professional card counters using this tactic to win the game. After placing your bets, there will be a few opportunities during the game to choose whether you want to “stand” (not ask for another card) or “hit” (ask for another card). This will all depend on the value of the cards you were initially dealt, as you don’t want to “hit” and end up going beyond 21.
With a great mixture of luck and strategy, this game is also available in a variety of ways – and is accessible anytime, anywhere! If you think you’ve got what it takes to beat the dealer, then why not try your hand at this exciting game?
The question remains – which game will you choose?
If you fancy a little bit more of a hands-on game with extra decision-making and tactics involved, then Blackjack is the game for you. Whereas, if the anticipation of relying purely on the spin of a table that is out of your hands, and a game involving a little less skill is how you want to let your hair down – then Roulette will be right up your alley.
You could even visit a live casino with Roulette and Blackjack, to try – and compare – both games for yourself in an immersive, high-definition experience. With a real-life dealer being streamed straight to you, you can get the full casino experience, brush up on your skills, and really decide which table game you prefer to play – all from the comfort of your own home. What’s not to love?
