Larsa and Scottie Pippen Remain a United Front in Their Role as Co-Parents of Four Kids
Even though Larsa Pippen is now raising her kids on her own, she and her ex-husband, Scottie Pippen, really have their act together when it comes to parenting their four children – Scotty Jr., Preston, Justin, and Sophia.
“I feel like we are so similar when it comes to parenting our kids,” Larsa said in 2023 to Bravo’s The Daily Dish. “We’re both pretty understanding with our kids, and we both have the same parenting goals for our kids. So I think it, like, works for our family.”
The reality star from The Real Housewives of Miami met and married the former NBA player in 1997 when he was a father to four kids from his previous relationships. Apart from that, the couple gave birth to their son Scotty Jr. in November 2000, after which they welcomed Preston in 2002 and Justin in 2005. Finally, in 2008, they added a new member to the family, their youngest and only daughter, Sophia.
Larsa and Scottie Pippen’s Children Are Following Their Own Interests
Larsa and Scottie Pippen divorced in 2021 after 21 years of marriage. They decided to end their relationship in 2018, but they still keep a friendly relationship.
As the kids have grown, they’ve started making their own way. Scotty Jr. and Justin have followed the path of their father to the NBA by taking up basketball. Sophia has taken the path of fashion and modeling just like their mother. Preston, although he was a basketball player in high school, is now looking at new avenues after graduating from college.
“I would like for my children to be doing things that give them that good feeling,” Larsa revealed to The Daily Dish. “I think if they are comfortable following their passion or whatever they want to do, I believe that I am there to support them and I am thrilled.”
Here’s everything there is to know about Larsa Pippen’s four children: Scotty Jr., Preston, Justin and Sophia, to name a few.
Scotty Pippen Jr., 25
Mother Larsa Pippen delivered a baby on November 10, 2000. It was exactly when she and Scottie Pippen welcomed their firstborn, Scotty Pippen Jr., their son.
Though born in Portland, Oregon, Scotty Jr. was raised in Florida and California and was a natural athlete from his very first days. In 2022 Scottie told PEOPLE: “He’s probably had a ball from the day he was born. As a father, the ball was always around him.”
Larsa on the 2011 season premiere of The Real Housewives of Miami indicated that “he’s just like his dad — very, very competitive.” He had further basketball engagements in elite Sierra Canyon School, Los Angeles and later at Vanderbilt University.
Scotty Jr. went professional in July 2022 when he signed a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. Talking about the stress associated with his last name, he told PEOPLE that having an NBA legend as a father “surely makes you a target,” but the moment when he was able to say “I did it” was extremely gratifying.
Scotty Pippen Jr. on Expectations and Making It to the NBA
Choosing not to let expectations get to him, Scotty Pippen Jr. has been truthful about the pressure that goes with the family name and how he deals with it.
“I think there are definitely higher expectations because people expect me to be just like my dad, but I actually don’t get that to me at all because people think I should be or shouldn’t be,” he explained to PEOPLE. Despite the outside noise, he said that making it to the NBA was “a dream come true.”
Scotty signing with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022 was a major achievement not only for Scotty but for his parents too. “I am feeling very proud of him,” Scottie Pippen shared that September. “As a dad, it is not possible for me to always lead or show him the way on the court. Eventually, I took my own wings and went and he will do the same.”
Larsa Pippen “So Proud” as Scotty Jr. Builds His Own NBA Path
Larsa Pippen has been constantly emphasizing how much her eldest son’s achievements have meant to her. In an interview with The Daily Dish in 2023, she said, “I love him so much, I’m proud of him. He’s been figuring this out since he was 4 years old. I think this is definitely his dream and he’s such a Lakers fan, so I’m thrilled for him that he can now be a part of the organization that he absolutely loves.”
During his first year in the NBA, Scotty Pippen Jr. was cut off from the Los Angeles Lakers, however, his journey in the NBA hasn’t stopped. He signed a two-way contract with the Memphis Grizzlies in January 2024 and has been able to get a multi-year contract with that team, thus continue to establish his own way in the league.
Preston Pippen, 23
It was on Aug. 26, 2002, in Portland that Larsa and Scottie brought their second son into the world, Preston Pippen. The boy was named after his grandfather, Scottie’s father, who died in 1990.
Although Preston was a basketball player during his high school days, he was not very much inclined towards the game. During the 2011 RHOM season premiere, Larsa mentioned that Preston didn’t have the same intensely competitive nature as his father and older brother. “He’s a little chill,” she said.
Instead of sports, Preston was more into studies and went to Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles to pursue a degree in entrepreneurship and business. He achieved a big goal in May 2025 when he walked out of college with a business degree, flanked by his parents and siblings.
“I’m so proud of you son. This is just the beginning. I’ll be right here as your proud dad!” Scottie wrote on Instagram. The next day, Larsa shared her feelings in a tribute saying, “Congrats my love I’m so proud of you.”
Justin Pippen, 20
Larsa and Scottie had their youngest son Justin Pippen on July 11, 2005. Unlike Scotty and Preston, who are his older siblings, Justin did not only grow up in California but that is also where he was born. However, not surprisingly, he seems to follow the basketball family tradition.
“He’s really an athlete as well,” Larsa told The Daily Dish in 2023. “He’s obsessed with basketball. So he’s basically copying little Scotty’s and his dad’s footsteps.”
Justin finished his studies at Sierra Canyon School where he was also a player on the basketball team, just like his brothers. After this, he was accepted into the basketball program at the University of Michigan. At the Defend the Block, an athletic podcast at the University of Michigan, Justin shared his thoughts about the experience of being raised in a basketball-centric family and living the game and the legacy of his family around him which happened in 2024.
Justin Pippen Forges His Own Path on the Court
Justin conveyed to us some of the major lesson from his father which is the best advice Scottie ever gave him was to “push myself to exhaustion.” He described that his father was raised without money and had to hustle for everything he achieved, and though Justin’s life hasn’t been as hard, “he still wants me to work as hard as I can.”
Justin also used to tease about the comparison between him and his older brother on the court. He acknowledged Scotty being the stronger one, however, he thinks he is the better shooter.
Just one year of playing at the University of Michigan under his belt, Justin decided to move to the University of California, Berkeley to be part of the California Golden Bears basketball team. In her Instagram Stories, Larsa was thrilled to post a screenshot of the announcement with the caption “excited for your next chapter.”
Sophia Pippen, 17
Born on Dec. 26, 2008, in California, Sophia is Larsa and Scottie’s youngest child and only daughter. Kim Kardashian is Sophia’s godmother, and just like her mom and godmother, Sophia is fascinated with the entertainment industry.
“Sophia, my daughter, is a model,” Larsa said in an interview with The Daily Dish in 2023. “She acts, she dances. She’s my little Larsa.”
It wasn’t always that way, though. Sophia revealed in a 2022 360 Magazine interview that she found it hard sometimes growing up in a famous family. “I was struggling a lot when I was younger but being with friends who are going through the same thing has really helped me look at it differently,” she explained. “I like posting on social media because maybe I’m showing kids at my age that they should follow their passions.”
It seems like Sophia has always had a strong bond with her parents and older siblings. “My brothers and I are very good at getting along,” she said in an interview with Poster Child magazine in 2015. “Since I am the only girl, they are very protective of me.”
Sophia Pippen Is Already Eyeing the Fashion and Entertainment Industry
Sophia has revealed that her parents use different approaches to inspire her: while her dad challenges her and her brothers “to be the best at anything we do,” her mom mainly wants them to be happy and believes that they should pursue their dreams. For Sophia, that dream is to start her own clothing line.
Only 17, she is a true veteran in terms of public experience as she’s been in the limelight for more than ten years. She was a model at New York City Kids Fashion Week in 2014 and has been the face of brands such as Oscar de la Renta and Fashion Nova. She also participated in the dance reality TV show – Dancing with the Stars: Juniors in 2018.
“DWTS Junior really showed me how important it is to work hard and be dedicated,” she mentioned to 360 Magazine. “Because of how much I fell in love with dancing, I started taking lessons regularly after the show.”
In addition to dancing, Sophia has been involved in acting courses and is still modeling.
