Located on the western edge of Phoenix, the urban village of Maryvale is home to MLB training facilities and one of the largest entertainment venues in the city, Ak-Chin Pavilion. Established in the 1950s, Maryvale has grown to become one of the largest sections of Phoenix. The westside, as locals refer to Maryvale, has a rich Mexican culture with Hispanics making up over 70-percent of the population. Many locally-owned restaurants, bars, and even the largest Maryvale mall are bilingual or Spanish-speaking only as a large number of Maryvale families immigrated from Mexico, Central, and South America. This urban village is known for its amazing Latin American food and entertainment.
