Ozzy Osbourne Reflects on Infidelity and Sharon’s Clear-Eyed Response
He admits his sex addiction “got out of hand,” calling Sharon’s reaction level-headed
Remarkably, their 43-year love story, although not without its ups and downs, was the tale of Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne. Writing about his wife’s down-to-earth response to his cheating in his posthumous memoir, Last Rites (release date October 7), Ozzy admits that his sex addiction went “around Black Sabbath’s last tour” with a mischievous tone, as if he really thought it would be “a great idea to start seeing a load of women on the side.” He further states that Sharon, whom he tied the knot with in 1982, had “every right to dump” him, not only because of his unfaithfulness but also since he basically told her lies, wrote the rocker who passed away on July 22 aged 76.
“What did you expect, Ozzy?” — Sharon’s blunt response and a hard-earned reckoning
“Eventually, you find yourself in a situation where you are so trapped with them, you can’t help but visualise them going to the press or something like that, which is pretty much what happened,” wrote Ozzy in Last Rites. “Sharon was like, ‘God, what did you expect, Ozzy? If you see quite a few women, one of them is going to be the one you want and that’s the one who’s going to get you into the whole mess of secrecy getting you all the traffic jam of the situation.’” He confessed to being the “bad guy” who “f—ed around for a while,” and said he feels terribly thankful to her for choosing to forgive him in the end.
“I broke my wife’s heart” — remorse, rehab, and reconciliation
Ozzy wrote, “I broke my wife’s heart, and I’m the one who has the most trouble with my conscience that she forgave me. I hope the people I hurt will understand that I feel deeply sorry for them — the children, in particular, who were the most affected, I’m sure.” “That’s all I want to say about the past because talking about it only causes me more pain,” he added.
Their separation was announced in May 2016; by August PEOPLE was able to report that Ozzy had gone to rehab for his sex addiction. However, they got back together in September and later were even more committed during their vow renewal. The couple have 2 girls and 1 boy: daughters Aimee, 42, and Kelly, 40, and son Jack, 39.
Public affair fallout and Sharon’s conditional forgiveness
At about the same time, hairstylist Michelle Pugh revealed that she had been having a secret affair with Ozzy for four years. He not only stated that he was “sorry if Ms. Pugh misunderstood our sexual relationship,” but also emphasized their briefness.
“I forgive, although it will take a very long time for me to regain trust. We have been a couple for 36 years, married for 34… The truth is that I just can’t imagine life without him,” Sharon told The Talk in July 2016, further stating that her husband had been a “dirty dog” (sic).
Ozzy Osbourne Reflects on Infidelity, Health Battles, and His Final Years in Last Rites
Sharon later said that while Ozzy was recounting his last seven years, he had cheated with six different women
Reportedly, six different women were the partners with whom Ozzy had an affair, Sharon disclosed this to The Telegraph in 2017. Roughly the last seven years of Ozzy’s life are depicted in Last Rites — his declining health, his struggles through the disease, and the outing of his determination to be back on stage for the last time with Back to the Beginning farewell concert with Black Sabbath. Jack Osbourne’s statement said that his dad had been, “chipping away at it for the last three or four years.”
“Enjoy his words. Feel his energy.”
According to Jack Osbourne, very few family members have had a chance to go through Last Rites, as the whole situation after losing their dad has been “a difficult time for everyone.” He further stated that his father would want people to “smile, laugh, and feel love” – he “quite hated it when people felt sorry for him” Along with tears of emotions that some supporters may have, Jack remarked that Ozzy was never happy with people crying at his side. “So enjoy his words. Feel his energy. Remember who he will always be. And never stop loving him.”
