How to Celebrate NYC Pride This June

NYC Pride is a spectacle to remember. People from all walks of life come together to celebrate love and diversity at all kinds of entertaining events and gatherings.

If you’re at a loss for how to celebrate National Pride Month in NYC, we got you. UrbanMatter went ahead and compiled the gayest things happening in our great city this month, so you can get out there and support the LGBTQIA+ community in more ways than one.

Got a runner’s soul? You can participate in the 5K Pride Run on June 9 to support your community. There’s even a nonconforming category for those who don’t identify as either male or female, or who identify as both, so everyone can feel entirely safe and in their element at this race.

The Human Rights Conference takes place on Thursday, June 14, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the SUNY Global Center, and features academic performance and presentations from educated LGBTQIA+ members.

If you’re an entrepreneur or a revolutionary in the LGBTQIA+ community, you can take part in the Pride Luminaries Brunch, which brings leaders in the business world together for a meet-and-greet event on June 17. Not only will you meet some inspiring people, but maybe a cute new boo, too.

Spend some time getting to know locals in your neighborhood at the LGBT Community Center’s Garden Party, where snacks and cocktails from restaurants all over NYC will be highlighted for your tasting pleasure. Tickets $99 for general admission, but all proceeds go towards supporting the Center’s programs and services, so you know. Great cause.

If you’re a movie buff AND you’re gay AF, you simply can’t miss OutCinema, which highlights three special screenings of films inspired and directed by members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Get these coveted seats before anyone else here, and then head on over to SVA Theatre from June 18–20 for this extravagant event.

Summer’s a perfect time for backyard barbecue, but even better when you have top chefs from around the city cooking it for you. At God’s Love We Deliver, you can watch legendary LGBTQ cooks from Gramercy Tavern and “Chopped” execute their culinary performances and then taste the delicious food they opted to make for you. Mmmmm. Delicious. And yes, I’m talking about the food, ya dirty pervs.

Fans of dance and theatre can find themselves in dramatic heaven when they attend Pride Week at The Joyce. From June 19–23, several LGBTQIA+ dance groups come together and put on fabulous performances that are unfathomably incomparable. See it all for yourself this month when you get your tickets here.

There’s nothing like a good insurgency to get you fired up about your rights, and the Rally at the Stonewall National Monument is the perfect way to stay involved. Without Stonewall, there would be no Pride, so come on out and show your support for this blessed community on June 22.

Whether you’re into cosplay, fantasy, or both, you can exploit your wildest dreams at these two Pride events on June 22. Hop onto an evening cruise with Geeks OUT for Cosplay & Pride, a graphic art, anime, and manga-inspired costume party for all nerdy members of the LGBTQ+ community. And Fantasy: Leather Edition… well, it’s exactly what it sounds like. Head over to Slate at 10 p.m. for a riotous night you are sure to remember.

The Saturday before the march is an explosion of events that you simply can’t miss. Start the night off at the VIP Rooftop Party, which begins at 2 p.m. at Hudson Terrace. This event typically sells out pretty quick, so get your tickets here before everyone else! Teaze HER is the female queer sleepover you’ve always wanted to experience, with spanking booths, lap dance classes, and oyster tastings, all happening on the roof of The D.L. until midnight. The guys can finish this steamy night off with Masterbeat’s Masterbuilt: Pride, a construction-worker-themed dance party at Hammerstein Ballroom that is bound to leave you hot and bothered.

And finally, the march itself. The 49th Annual NYC Pride March kicks off on June 24 at noon for a few hours of countless LGBTQIA+ members, activists, and supporters coming together and struttin’ their stuff. Over 110 floats are expected to make their way along 7th and 5th Avenue, and you definitely won’t want to miss this year’s event. You can always spend your hours at PrideFest, where street vendors and entertainers come together and put on an interactive event for everyone in attendance. Not to mention Pride Island, a music fest at Pier 97, has a lineup that includes none other than Tove Lo. And ladies, don’t miss out on the opportunity for your very own rooftop gathering at Femme Fatale. There’s a good chance your soulmate is going, too. *wink wink*

If we missed an event that you personally love to attend, hit us up! We’re happy to include your suggestions in our next roundup.
