Michael Keaton Faces Backlash Over Charlie Kirk Comments
Michael Keaton is getting a lot of negative feedback due to the comments he made about Charlie Kirk’s death which have been widely shared online.
The Batman actor not only angered fans but also attracted a swarm of negative reactions when he made this sarcastic remark about Kirk’s shooting death. On X after Variety Broadcasting his quotes, he was met there with alot of comments for his remarks.
“That’s same thing case why so many people skipped watching films or any other Hollywood stuff after that kind of statement from M. Keeton. Michael Keaton is such a douchebag you can see it only by his words,” someone commented. One more seemed to be somewhat sarcastic and wrote: “Another moment when the performance of a 3rd grade student is revealed.”
Mixed Reactions From Fans
The online reactions were mixed. “He could surely have been more gentle and just said the last sentence only and that would have been it,” is how one user described Keaton’s response in a tweet. Another user wrote, “Charlie’s justifying the Second Amendment was for us to be able to defend against a tyrannical government, not so that we could shoot others in the throat because we disagree with what they say in debate.”
However, not all reactions were negative. One of Keaton’s supporters, 76, took the stage to refute the criticism, and among the commenters, he requested others to show more kindness to everyone.
Calls for Kindness Amid Backlash
Some appealed to the critics to demonstrate restraint. “Let’s allow Michael Keaton some credit for caring that Charlie and his family will miss him. Being mean to him won’t make the situation better. We become part of the problem if we speak badly to others. We all have to be aware of our behavior and be kind to others. Charlie Kirk was kind to everyone. Let’s be kind too,” one person wrote.
Keaton’s representatives were not available for a response to Page Six’s request for comment.
Kirk, the Turning Point USA founder and strong Second Amendment advocate, passed away last week after he was shot fatally at a speaking event at Utah Valley University, one of the stops on his American Comeback Tour. Keaton made his first comments about Kirk during a speech at the Investigative Reporters and Editors’ 50th anniversary gala on Monday night.
Keaton’s Remarks at the Gala
Keaton during his speech at the Investigative Reporters and Editors’ 50th anniversary gala, opened his address by acknowledging Kirk’s family. He told Variety, “I am going to take a minute to say that, regardless of how I probably- not probably- disagreed with many things he said, Charlie Kirk leaves behind two kids and a wife. “You have to remember that.”
Keaton went on to say that no violence should be used, adding, “Because, in the end, shooting people will never solve anything, and the very last thing that’s going to happen is the irony that he was killed with a gun is unbelievable.”
After Kirk’s passing, Keaton was among several stars who spoke about the right-wing pundit. In the wake of his death, Jamie Lee Curtis, Amanda Seyfried, and Morgan Wallen are some of the celebrities who have also expressed their views on the matter.
