Additional Footage Shows Alleged 145+ MPH Chase in Marshawn Kneeland Case
Newly released records and video from the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) acquired by The Athletic reveal that Dallas Cowboys player Marshawn Kneeland, 24, was allegedly fleeing police at a speed of over 145 miles per hour during a chase that lasted until the early morning hours of Nov. 6. The documents illustrate the events of the high-speed run prior to the crash and have been referred to in the pieces covering the news of the incident.
DPS states that a trooper started following Kneeland at around 10:33 p.m. on Nov. 5 after seeing him drive “at a high rate of speed” and make “several unsafe lane changes.” The video and report indicate the moment when the officer decided to pull the vehicle over and the ensuing chase that went on until the early hours of Nov. 6.
Body cam video reveals the fast chase; the cops couldn’t believe it
The Athletic also got hold of another piece of body-camera footage from a different DPS trooper, in which the trooper said that Kneeland went 160 mph during the chase. One of the officers can be heard in the audio expressing disbelief that the driver was a Cowboys player — “When I heard who it was, I was like ‘Nah,’” the officer says on camera. After Kneeland had sped through an intersection, the trooper is said to have turned on his lights and siren to command the driver to stop, but Kneeland allegedly continued his way without stopping for the police.
Crash, flight and alarming discoveries
It’s reported by The Athletic that after the officer had lost sight of Kneeland’s vehicle, the NFL player’s car allegedly went on to hit a truck, hence, crashed in a grassy area close to Dallas Parkway and Warren Parkway. This is also the location from where the police say Kneeland ran off on foot.
The woman who was driving the truck that was hit by Kneeland, as per the unverified source, told a trooper that Kneeland “just hit me out of nowhere” and “then he started running.” She said that she was not hurt in the accident, as reported by The Athletic.
The outlet reports that the police report mentioned that an empty holster was found inside the car of Kneeland.
In the body camera footage obtained by the outlet, a trooper after seeing the text of Kneeland which was his reported “goodbye” to friends and family, said, “Oh that’s not good.”
Kneeland found dead of apparent self‑inflicted gunshot; coach confirms pregnant girlfriend
On the night of November 5 to 6, Marshawn Kneeland was discovered dead of an apparent self‑inflicted gunshot wound after the police searched the area around the office building where they found blood inside the portable restroom with the help of the drone and a heat source on the floor of the restroom with the use of the thermal camera. The time of the incident was around 1:30 a.m.
After the sad news of Kneeland’s death, Schottenheimer, head coach of the Cowboys, made a statement that Kneeland’s girlfriend, Catalina Mancera, is expecting a baby that will be their first at a press conference held on November 12: “We want to make sure she’s taken care of and the baby is taken care of for the rest of their lives,” he said.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer told the media that the team has set up a memorial fund in the name of Marshawn Kneeland to help with the financial needs of the late linebacker’s girlfriend, Catalina Mancera, and their unborn child. “We want to be certain that she is taken care of and the baby is taken care of, of course, for the rest of their lives,” he added.
On November 12, Mancera, after a long period of silence, took to Facebook to write a message: “My sweet baby, words could never express the extent of my brokenness, you were my everything. I will love you forever my lovely angel,” and she also inserted a white heart emoji.
