Mark Sanchez Arrested in Indianapolis; Broadcaster Hospitalized in Stable Condition
Mark Sanchez is facing a new setback.
The former NFL quarterback and current Fox Sports analyst was arrested at a hospital on misdemeanor charges of battery resulting in injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said in an Oct. 4 statement on X. Police noted he remains hospitalized and has not yet been formally processed.
Sanchez is “in stable condition” after injuries that led to his hospitalization in Indianapolis on Oct. 4. He played in the NFL from 2009 to 2018 and now works as a broadcaster for Fox Sports.
Fox Sports and Agent Provide Updates
“We really appreciate the great care and support given to us by the medical team,” said Fox Sports in a statement via X on Oct. 4. “Our hearts go out to Mark and we ask that everyone please give him and his family the space they need during this difficult period.”
Andrew Kessler, the agent of Sanchez, told CBS News, “I’m not quite sure what happened. I’m not even sure if he is conscious. Basically, that’s all I know and all I can say.”
The 38-year-old was at Fox to make the call of the Oct. 5 game between the Colts and the Raiders in Indianapolis.
Two Men Injured in ‘Isolated’ Fight, Police Say
Authorities from the region stated that they seek to find out the cause of the “physical disturbance” that involved two adult males, as a result of which one man was cut and the other was given “stab wound-like injuries,” the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department reported.
The police department of Indianapolis Metropolitan (IMPD) refrained from the disclosure of personal information of the individuals but implied that the event tends to be an “isolated” incident of a conflict with two men. No arrests have been conducted.
Sanchez’s NFL Career and Well-Wishes from the Jets
Mark Sanchez—husband to Perry Mattfeld and father of twins, six-month-old, and to son Daniel, 8, from a past relationship—was the fifth overall pick of the New York Jets in 2009 and stayed with the team for five seasons. After that, he played for the Eagles, Cowboys, and Bears but decided to quit in Washington in 2018.
After the disheartening news of his injury, the Jets showed their solidarity via social media: “Love and thoughts to Mark Sanchez and his family,” the team wrote on X. “We are all rooting for you to get well soon, 6.”
