Kirsten‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Dunst got the role of Mary Jane in Spider-Man because of Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson is not reminiscing about one of the big roles that she turned down.
She certainly recognized the fact that she missed the opportunity to portray the iconic Mary Jane Watson character in the Spider-Man movie.
“Yes, I did,” Kate replied to Andy Cohen after a fan question during the Dec. 22 episode of Watch What Happens Live. “Now that I look back, it’s one of those things where I look back and say, ‘It would have been great to be in a Spider-Man movie.'”
At the end of the day, it was the web-slinging duo of Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst who graced the screen in the 2002–2007 franchise, whereas Kate shared it with some other leading ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌man.

Why‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌ Did Kate Hudson Turn Down Mary Jane in Spider-Man?

Kate Hudson openly admitted that she turned down the role of Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man, which is the role that Kirsten Dunst eventually played.
“However, simultaneously I was doing a movie called Four Feathers,” the 46-year-old reminisced. “I had the chance to meet Heath Ledger, who later became a very close friend, and I had an experience that I would never have gotten otherwise.”
“So, a little bit of me thinks that things happen in life exactly the way they should,” she said. “So, I am glad that it happened. But I do look at it and I think, ‘Oh, come on, it would have been really fun to be her.'”
When Andy Cohen mentioned her playing MJ in several movies, she giggled, “I know, I know.”
However, Hudson is always happy to give props to the actresses who came after her, one of whom is Zendaya that has played MJ opposite Tom Holland’s Spider-Man since ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌2017.

“The People Who Are in the Movie Are the Right People”
“It’s so funny when people say these things,” Kate Hudson whispered about the parts that she has turned down. “Talking about it doesn’t really feel right because the people who are in the movie are the right people and your circumstances in life just happen that way.”
Spider-Man is not the only piece of work that she has refused. The Running Point actress exposed that even, as she was following the footsteps of her mother Goldie Hawn, both of them have turned down the scripts that would have put them on the same ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌screen.

According to Kate Hudson, the idea of acting alongside her mother Goldie Hawn is something that could still happen. It’s just that they haven’t found the right script for it yet.
“We are asked that question so often,” she said on Watch What Happens Live. The Running Point actress who is mom to Ryder, 21 (with Chris Robinson), Bingham, 14 (with Matt Bellamy), and Rani Rose, 7 (with fiancé Danny Fujikawa), pointed out that the majority of scripts they receive don’t seem to be that deep.
“The story has to be right, I guess,” she said. “Over the years, the pitches we have got seemed a bit too fluffy. If my mother and I decided to do something together, I think it has to be really serious.”
“It absolutely has to be really funny, though,” she stressed. “And, it must be something that makes you feel differently. When we think about it, it’s just that we haven’t come across it yet. We haven’t unlocked that ‍‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‌mystery.”
