Opening Up About Her Darkest Time
Julianne Hough is calling out the “darkest time” in her life and sharing her journey of coming out of the darkness.
In a conversation with Dhar Mann, a viral storyteller and an entrepreneur, 37-year-old Julianne took a deep dive into her path to recovery. Hough shared that she burst with talent at the very start of her career, which, in hindsight, she acknowledged, later triggered her emotional breakdowns.
Hough was so determined she “hustled” in LA for only six months before she got on Dancing with the Stars season 4 as a professional dancer in 2007, which changed her life.
From Momentum to Heartbreak
Hough remembered, “I ended up doing the show and won my first two seasons back-to-back. It was like a ripple effect. The stars were aligned.”
That initial victory spiraled very fast. “After that, I got a country music record deal, and had a No. 1 album and won best new female vocalist, best new artist,” she went on. “Later, I started doing movies with Tom Cruise and just had this incredible, like, momentum.”
However, Hough admitted that she didn’t have the power of the momentum for a long time. “The thing was, everything was going, going, going, and then everything fell apart,” she told Mann.
She disclosed heartbreak happened in 2019 when her two dogs, Lexi and Harley, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels that she loved, were killed by coyotes. At that time, her marriage also “started unraveling.”
Divorce and a Time of Change
Ashley Hough was the girlfriend of ex-hockey player Brooks Laich and they have ended their relationship. The end of the relationship of Hough and Laich was marked by a split, divorce, and the latter being legally confirmed in 2022. In May 2020 the pair informed the public about their separation, in that same year in November they divorced, and the divorce was legally confirmed in 2022.
Hough, while describing her life with Mann, confessed that her marriage was not the only thing going down in her life. She said, “My career, my friend group, everything that I had really started to become different, My career, my friend group, everything that I had really started to become different,.”
Finding Healing Through Self-Care
The Footloose star revealed that she eventually became to move on, m, though it wasn’t a simple one.
“It was a process and it was the timing,” Hough said. “Healing can not be rushed. You can not rush the period you need to go through to get a lesson.”
She said what made her most was the turning of her energy to self-care and connection. “I dived into the things that I love, which are the relationships, and really I did the meaty part with the people. I reckon that the moment you feel deserted or lonely, that moment you can think of serving another person, it gives you so much happiness and energy, and it actually changes the frequency and the vibration of your whole body. But it’s a journey and a process and it doesn’t happen overnight.”
Choosing Positivity and Embracing Uniqueness
Hough revealed that staying around “good people” and concentrating on positivity was also a big part of her recovery journey.
“You know, we live in a world that is so hectic. We are so overwhelmed by the information that we get. Put yourself in a position to be around good people … or read the content that energizes you and gives you pleasure instead of envy,” she said.
She also raised the point that others should accept their personal attributes. “In my opinion, when we compare our lives with others, we often feel that we must mirror them, but what separates you from others is so great and you are one of one.”
