Jonathan Van Ness on 70-lb GLP-1 Weight Loss: “I Was Always Cute”

Van Ness remains committed to the idea of body neutrality and self-worth despite criticism about his GLP-1 weight loss

After shedding 70 lbs, Jonathan Van Ness was not happy with the huge discussion around his usage of a GLP-1 drug in his TikTok which he shared on Thursday, October 30. The 38-year-old celebrity replied to the critics accusing him of “not being a body positive person anymore” by saying, “What do you mean? I’m all about body neutrality.”
Van Ness emphasized that beauty or looks should not be the measure of a person’s value: “How you look doesn’t define your worth, doesn’t define how lovable you are. You are lovable and worth being celebrated, regardless of your body.”

Jonathan Van Ness reveals the reason behind his GLP‑1 experiment: “My body has never looked like this”

In a TikTok video, Van Ness shared the reason for his initiation of a GLP‑1 drug regimen — drugs approved for Type 2 diabetes that have been broadly used for weight loss. A “medical issue” in 2023, as he put it, was the reason for the change of his mind: if a colonoscopy didn’t show anything “severely wrong,” he was going to try a GLP‑1 because he “just didn’t feel good.”
After shedding 70 pounds and doing Pilates at Solidcore, Van Ness claimed his body has changed. “My body has never — in my entire life — I have always wanted to have an ab,” he confessed. “I have never had abs. And I feel really nice, so I am removing my shirt quite often.”

Jonathan Van Ness: “I was always really cute” — now he feels like a “minx”

After a 70-lb weight loss, the Queer Eye hairstylist says that it was not his appearance but his health and confidence that made him go shirtless
Van Ness mentioned that he had always felt attractive but had not felt well until recently. “I was always really cute, and I always felt cute. But I just didn’t feel good, and now I feel good,” he explained to the audience.
Just before the end of his TikTok, the 38-year-old, whose birthday is coming soon, expressed his new self-assurance with these words: “I feel like a f—ing minx right now” and wants to have photos from his 30s to look back on at his 80s “looking cute.” “So that’s why the top is off, because I really feel cute,” he said.

Jonathan Van Ness says GLP‑1 helped him take control — “I was always really cute”

Jonathan Van Ness, 38, announced to his followers that he started a GLP‑1 drug in September 2024 and he attributed it with helping him gain control over his eating disorder. In a January TikTok he stated, “I, probably the first time ever in my life, I got control over my food intake,” and in February he posted pictures with a caption of 66 pounds weight loss. Later on, he mentioned his body has “never looked like this” and thus, besides the medication Pilates at Solidcore made him feel healthier.
Van Ness defied the attacks from his detractors, affirming that he is still practicing body neutrality and telling people that appearance does not determine value. “I was always really cute… I just didn’t feel good, and now I feel good,” he said, another time he mentioned that he feels “like a f—ing minx” and wants pictures from his 30s to look back on when he’s older.
