Johnny Rzeznik was born John Joseph Theodore on December 5, 1965, in Buffalo, New York. He was given the name Johnny Rzeznik. The four elder sisters, Gladys, Phyliss, Fran, and Kate, together with his parents, Joe, who worked as a postal worker and owned a bar, and Edith, who was a schoolteacher, were responsible for his upbringing in a household that was thoroughly devoted to the Catholic faith.
Not long before Rzeznik was sixteen years old, both of Johnny’s parents, who were both talented musicians who played the flute and clarinet, went away. Edith died unexpectedly from a heart attack in February 1981, while Joe, an alcoholic who had suffered three heart attacks, passed away from a diabetic coma in October 1982.
