64-year-old Jim Carrey, the actor, who has been awarded an Honorary César for his career over several decades, was the picture of elegance in a black suit at the star-studded event held at the world-famous L’Olympia.
In a very emotional speech, the famous comedian paid the tribute to his dad by dedicating the award to him stating, “I just wanted to recognize my dad. “I’m not one for conspiracies, but that isn’t Jim Carrey,” one person wrote, and another commented “The signs of surgical intervention are becoming visible.” There was even one questioning “Is he sporting some kind of disguise? He is in His neck.”
Nonetheless, there were still many fans who were about the moment itself. Jim Carrey, who was present at the 51st César Awards ceremony, reminisced about his family’s French heritage when he spoke about his experience as if it was a homecoming.
“My great-great-great-great-grandfather, Marc François Carrey, left Saint-Malo, France for Canada about three hundred years ago,” said the mask star. “With this wonderful honour tonight, this ‘square’ has come full circle. Maybe this is what my family was seeking,” Carrey seemed to imply that his ancestors might be happy.
It was remarkable that Carrey turned up at the César red carpet, considering that he has not been involved in any major film projects in the last four years. He made a comeback in 2020 in the role of Dr. Robotnik in Sonic the Hedgehog but the rumors about his retirement kept coming.
Carrey gave a green light to the rumor of his retirement in April 2022 during the media sessions for Sonic the Hedgehog 2 when he told journalists that he was “probably” quitting acting.
“I’m retiring. Yeah, probably. I am being pretty serious,” he said then, indicating that he was ready to enjoy a quieter life unless “the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink”.

Jim Carrey at one point made it very clear that he was looking forward to a peaceful life, telling in 2022 that he was glad that his life changes gave him a sense of fulfillment outside of the film industry.
“I really like my quiet life and I really love putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life,” he said. “I feel like — and I feel like this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists — I have enough. I’ve done enough. I am enough.”
Nevertheless, Carrey has still gone back to the role that’s been the highlight of his late career: Dr. Robotnik. He performed the character in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 last year and jokingly said that it was one of the reasons he came back to the character that was practical.
“I needed the money,” he joked in an interview.
Carrey will reprise his role of Robotnik in Sonic 4 that is currently set for a 2027 release.
