Is TikTok a Great Platform for Marketing?

TikTok is the newest social media platform and has been around for just a few years.  It is however quickly becoming one of the most popular social media platforms in the world. The reason why TikTok is so popular is because it is so easy to use and has a user-friendly format. TikTok is not just a platform for the everyday person to use, it is a platform that brands and businesses can also use for marketing because audiences are already on the app and engaging with content when they are scrolling down their feeds. TikTok has become incredibly popular and the big question is if it will be the next marketing platform. Here is what you need to know to answer the question “Is TikTok a great platform for marketing?”

What is TikTok?

TikTok is a popular social media platform where users of all ages post video content. It was launched in September 2016. TikTok users can sign up with a phone number, email address or a third party account such as Facebook or Instagram and once logged in, users can search content from many different creators, categories and hashtags. TikTok is all about video content so this is the only type of content you will see on the app. This is popular because it is informal, creative and entertaining. There are hashtag challenges and trending hashtags that go viral and users spend hours scrolling down their TikTok feed absorbing fun content.

There are influencers, services and ads

Social media is home of the influencer and TikTok has its fair share of them, 22 million influencers to be exact. Influencers are popular people who have a large and loyal following and they are in the business of promoting and collaborating with businesses and brands for a fee. There are many benefits of using an influencer. They have a large following so being associated with them expands your reach. Their followers are also loyal so if they promote your product or service, their followers will most likely support which means more customers for you. Another benefit is that you can gain more followers and engagement by being associated with an influencer.

Apart from influencers, there are also services such as TokUpgrade which grows your TikTok following naturally without any bots, and also allows you to buy TikTok followers. These services can help you gain followers that could become customers and help your business grow. Lastly, there are ads on TikTok, which can be uploaded as a video, or as images that will be grouped into a video. There are in feed ads that appear in between videos as the users scroll. TikTok is a great way to market just to avoid hard selling.

What are the demographics

TikTok has a very wide audience. These are some important user demographics:

  • There are 689 million monthly TikTok users worldwide.
  • 100 million TikTok users in the US monthly
  • 100 million TikTok users in Europe with 17 million in the UK, 11 million in France and 11 million in Germany.

TikTok is popular amongst the younger generations with the majority of its users being under the age of 30 years old.  48% of US adults between the ages 18-29 years old use TikTok, 20% of 40-49 year olds use the app and 14% are people aged 65 years old and up. Having such a large user base has many benefits, for one you have the potential to reach a large mass of people if you market correctly. If you have a business, there is no limit to the amount of followers that you can attract and you can really expand your reach. Brands can also benefit by generating a wide audience.

Organic marketing is great

Organic marketing is the new way to go in terms of marketing. Organic marketing is a form of marketing that does not require hard selling. No paid ads or sponsored posts are needed, just consistent presence online and engagement, which is great for getting new followers. To market organically you need to post good content consistently and then engage with your followers to establish a reputation and personality or voice on social media. Organic content is anything that you create. You can use hashtag challenges that are popular on TikTok and generate a lot of engagement and interaction as well as reach.
