Howie Mandel has apologized after his lively debate with Kelly Ripa over his look that aired during a March 24 episode of Live With Kelly and Mark went viral.
The 70-year-old AGT judge posted a video from the beach on Instagram on March 29 where he admitted debating for 48 hours whether he should comment on the issue. “Philosophically, I don’t think a comedian necessarily should apologize for a joke, ” he stated.
On the other hand, Mandel acknowledged that the back-and-forth was intended as a joke and not to cause any offense. Besides, he acknowledged his positive, long-term relationship with Kelly Ripa by saying, “This one is for Kelly Ripa who, in the past, has been very, very supportive. Not only have I been her guest on the show but I have also co-hosted with her, and I have known her for years.”

When Howie Mandel was on Live With Kelly and Mark on March 24, he made a joke about what it’s like being 70 years old, and that led to a viral moment with Kelly Ripa, who said that he looks really good.

Speaking with a bit of humor, he said, “I certainly look great for my age though, don’t I? I look fabulous really. I just have to accept that I look this good.”
Mark Consuelos, the co-host, also supported his wife’s statement by saying that Howie looks “great, ” but Mandel simply wasn’t interested in hearing hollow compliments, he was prepared to accept it wholeheartedly.

In an Instagram video from the beach on March 29, the judge from America’s Got Talent, 70, revealed that he had been continuously thinking for 48 hours whether to come out with the statement. “If we go philosophically, I don’t think that a comedian needs to apologize for a joke, ” he gave a bit more insight into his views.
That being said, Mandel pointed out that the joking was just an exchange and not to offend. He also stressed his very positive connection with Kelly Ripa over the years, saying, “I mean, who can forget Kelly Ripa that has been here so supportive? That’s not only me a guest on her show, but I have been a cohost with her and it’s years that I’ve known her.”
At one point, Mandel made a joke that being complimented “you look great for 70” was similar to “you’re smart for a stupid person.” Up till the last moment of the chat, he still gave in to the praise he was getting and said, “No, seriously, I am gorgeous” in a humorous way. On Instagram, Tan expressed, “Netflix and the production companies did a full-on casting. I didn’t put my friend up for the job. They ended up getting it because they were the best person for the job. But I didn’t get them hired by getting rid of somebody else.”
