Everyone knows that students wait excitedly for summer breaks to start. They have plans to party, travel, and spend time with family. But it will surprise a few students that even your teachers look forward to their summer breaks. They also wait excitedly for a few months without worrying about making a study plan for their students. Or worrying about how to inspire a group of students to take their studies seriously, and more.
So, if you are a teacher, you must be thrilled about summer vacations. You must have plans to visit family or go out of town and explore a new place. But most regions get a two-and-a-half-month break. Do you spend the entirety of it vacationing? Probably not! Some teachers also do not go on any vacations due to personal issues. So, how can they relax and be productive during summer breaks? Want some ideas? Read the article below.
Wake up without the alarm.
Having a routine is essential. But when you are a teacher, events, grading, and creating a lesson plan mean sleeping at odd times. Still, you must wake up at the same time every day to get ready for school. The summer is your time to enjoy sleep. Go to sleep when you want, early or late, and wake up without an alarm. Maybe you can sleep in occasionally during the summer breaks. Do not make it a habit, but indulging in sleep is a form of self-care.
Volunteer
If you do not like having this much free time, try volunteering. After completing your travels, you can volunteer at the shelter or community centers. You can help cook meals, clean up the mess, and more. So many places need volunteers, like animal centers, libraries, local hospitals, and more.
Get a summer job
Most teachers do not split their salary to cover the two months off. Even if they do, savings can take a dip with travel, fun, and parties. So how about you take a summer job? You can even do this with enough savings to earn more and be productive. Now it does not have to be a teaching job. You can pursue other passions you have. For instance, if you love writing, you can become a freelancer and pick up gigs to earn more while honing your skills.
Pursue your hobbies
Do you have hobbies you do not pursue during the school year due to a lack of time? Then summer breaks are the perfect time to do so. Maybe you love cooking but do not know how. The break gives you plenty of time to learn to cook. Similarly, if you love the smell of candles and candle-making art excites you, learn it. Buy candle-making kits, and take lessons from a teacher or YouTube to start making candles yourself.
Attend events or festivals.
Always wanted to go to Coachella? Or maybe you want to watch a cricket tournament in person. Summer is the best time to enjoy concerts, festivals, and sports events. Find out the events during your summer break and get the tickets. Watching a live music concert or a national tournament is an experience everyone should have.
Update your skills
Even teachers should update their skills. Maybe you want to teach college students later in life. Figure out what you need to do and upgrade your skills. Also, keep learning, as many new technologies are coming up that will be helpful for both you and your students.
Read books
Have a long list of books you want to complete? Summer is the perfect time for it. Read a few chapters every day. Maybe you can make a day of it, go to the beach, soak up the sun, and read a book.
Work on your body.
Do you have enough time to perform an extensive workout during school days? No? Change it! Join a gym, yoga, or Pilates class and work on your body. Learn to meditate.
Even teachers cannot spend their entire summer breaks binge-watching Netflix. Therefore, ideas like learning a new skill, taking a summer class, or completing a list of books are perfect. The list has multiple ideas about relaxation, fun, and being productive. Which one do you like?
