Hotels Across the World are Rapidly Expanding In-Room Entertainment

Hotels often find themselves scrambling to adopt the latest technology so they can provide the best experiences to guests. In-room entertainment is no different here, and now, high-speed internet access isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. Studies have found that 72% of guests want to access their streaming accounts at the hotel without a reduction in quality, and 40% of guests would book a hotel with screen casting, over one that doesn’t.

Facilitating Gaming in Hotel Rooms

Over the last few years, gaming has become one of the biggest entertainment markets in the world. Although hotels don’t often offer gaming PCs in each room, gaming hubs are becoming the norm. The Arcade Hotel in the Netherlands takes things to the next level by providing headsets, gaming devices and a games room, with 270 square feet of space and a dedicated VR section.

Although most hotels can’t compete with this, fast WiFi and the option to cast from a phone to the TV are essential for modern vacationers. People want to be able to play prize pinball at Betfair, so they can get access to their free spins and other promotions. They also want to be able to play daily puzzle games and more intensive titles without being limited by a slow internet connection. Even though hotels may not want to invest in gaming directly, by providing fast WiFi and a HD TV, it’s easy to emulate the entertainment experience that someone would have at home, without compromise.

Premium Channels and Live TV

Television is a standard in most hotel rooms, and guests are often provided with access to a huge variety of basic channels. As time’s gone on, premium channels have become the norm, and many hotels even pay for sports just so guests don’t miss out on the latest matches.

Guests like to be able to stream whatever content they have at home because this helps them feel more comfortable, even in a new environment.  Some hotels are going as far as to provide 4K televisions to their guests, with streaming apps already downloaded. With this, comes new challenges.

Guests are often reluctant to enter their personal Netflix account information as when they leave the hotel, there’s no guarantee their information is safe. Thanks to modern casting technology, however, hoteliers can easily provide a range of entertainment options, such as giving guests the option to cast from their phone to the television. This means that guests can keep their login information private and on their own devices, without limiting the content they can watch and stream.

So even though hotels across the world are expanding the amount of in-room entertainment that’s available, the biggest benefit to guests is fiber broadband. This is helping to give guests access to the same entertainment they would at home, without compromising security. With some hotels, like the Arcade Hotel creating gaming rooms and VR spaces, it’s becoming more and more evident that there is a demand for this type of amenity. Even though guests travel to get away from life, they still want to stay connected to the things they know and love, as in a way, it provides all the comforts of home.
