Today, almost everyone has heard of cryptocurrency at least once in their lives. People all over the world are mastering the crypto sphere, gradually integrating it into all other areas of society and many people already have crypto assets (some of them prefer to buy Monero). The fashion industry is no exception to this rule.
Already now we can say that the attempts to introduce cryptocurrency into the fashion sphere have reduced people’s need for physical clothing samples and have taken the form of virtual images that can be worn on Instagram and on gaming platforms. In this article, we will look at the most prominent examples of the integration of cryptocurrency in the fashion world.
A virtual clothing collection by Karl Lagerfeld
On September 10, 2021, Karl Lagerfeld celebrated the birthday of the iconic German fashion designer, who passed away in 2019. The brand released NFT in limited editions on The Dematerialized platform. The cost per token for the first 777 users was $91, with another 77 buyers able to purchase a more luxurious version for $210. The number “seven” wasn’t chosen by chance, Lagerfeld believed it was the “seven” that brought him luck.
The Chinese “tailor”.
On January 13, 2022, 23-year-old Hong Kong resident Nick Lau launched Wear, a platform that will allow NFT collectors to dress their avatars using social media filters. It’s a hybrid of a traditional NFT marketplace like OpenSea and niche projects. Here you’ll be able to access your own virtual “tailor” who helps modify the NFT in 3D to match the customer’s avatar. There are also plans to open a showroom where designers can present their virtual collections. If you would like to purchase this or any other NFT you’re gonna choose and exchange some crypto pairs for an appropriate one.
Tiffany’s collection for CryptoPunks
The jewelry house Tiffany & Co. decided to keep up with the trend and prepared a unique collection of pendants. All the jewelry pieces in this collection are encrusted with diamonds, as well as are made in the style of CryptoPunks, and are available only for owners of NFTs.
The presentation of the collection took place on August 5, 2022. The jewelry house sold all 250 pendants. Each piece of jewelry sold for 50,000 dollars. So far, however, the owners have not yet received the necklaces themselves directly. They bought back “NFTiffs” tokens, which entitle them to an exclusive pendant. Each one combines unique attributes and is in the same color as the original image. The pendants are inlaid with real diamonds.
Fashion is one of the main means of people’s self-expression in the social space. Not surprisingly, digital fashion not only preserves this option, but also allows us to express ourselves with fewer limitations and more opportunities.
