One of the most iconic superheroes today, and one of the few to stick the landing with a modern DCEU movie – the first time, that is – Wonder Woman is a cultural icon, with some even arguing that she’s become a feminist role model, too. Now, she’s the leading name in a series of long-distance runs and marathons that are taking place across the country and beyond.
What started in September 2018 in Sacramento, California, has now spread to the far reaches of the US. In 2023, running enthusiasts can partake in events in: Des Moines, Iowa; Nashville, Tennessee; Dallas, Texas; and, of course, Chicago, Illinois. It’s a great race for runners of all experiences and abilities, celebrating both the comic book icon and the power of modern women.
DC Wonder Woman Run comes to Chicago
On October 21, 2023, the series comes to Chicago, seeing athletes speeding around Lincoln Park on 5K and 10K courses. Both races start at 9 am local time, but the event is much more than the final times. On the day, you’ll be able to pose for photos with comic strips and cut-outs, partake in the costume contest, and, after powering through the race, you’ll be invited to attend the post-race party.
Best of all, there’s some great swag for runners to snap up for the race. When you register for the DC Wonder Woman Run, you’ll get an official Wonder Woman puffer jacket and a WW cotton headband. Those who complete the race will also get one of those hefty metal Wonder Woman medals as a mark of their achievement. Prices increase on July 2, but for now, it’ll cost $54 for the 5K race or $64 for the 10K race.
As it turns out, October 21 is also Wonder Woman Day, so you can expect the Chicago edition of the 2023 DC Wonder Woman Run series to be extra special. At the very least, it should mark a much more accessible and fun-loving event for runners who perhaps want to cool off from or couldn’t run at the Chicago Marathon on October 8.
Taking the DC Wonder Woman Run series around the world
It’s not just the United States that holds Wonder Woman in such high esteem, which is something that the organizers certainly recognize. In fact, on March 26 this year, the series went to the Hong Kong Science Park. So, where could it go next? The Numbers’ box-office records suggest that Wonder Woman’s most significant non-North American fan bases are in China, Mexico, Brazil, and the UK. Still, the most straightforward path to expansion is to the north.
Toronto presents itself as the prime destination for another Wonder Woman run. Not only does it host its own highly regarded marathon, but Wonder Woman fandom is high in the sprawling city. Canada contributed significantly to Wonder Woman’s mighty box office figures domestically, and Ontario natives also seek out the superhero in other entertainment mediums.
In fact, one of the highest-rated Ontario online casino sites sees a whole bunch of its players gravitate to the Wonder Woman Gold slot. Of course, most players pick a site based on the payout rate, the number of games, and its review score from trusted platforms. Still, as with other forms of gaming, software sells platforms, which is why the Bally-made game is added to so many casino slot selections in Canada.
In Mexico, where Wonder Woman did exceptionally well at the box office in 2017 – making over $41.7 million – a new roller coaster was created to capitalize on her fandom. Opened in 2018, the Wonder Woman ride at Six Flags Mexico remains popular to this day, with many flips and twists along the track.
Later this year, the DC Wonder Woman Race series will run through Chicago, and for anyone who can’t attend in person, virtual race options will be available on the official website.
