You answered.<\/h2>\n<p>There are plenty of age-old questions. Did the universe start with a big bang? What came first, the chicken or the egg? And of course, what is Chicago\u2019s original pizza \u2013 deep dish or thin crust?<\/p>\n<p>Since our humble beginnings, we\u2019ve heard vehement claims that one or the other is actually the <em>truer<\/em> version of Chicago-style pizza. So how could we reach the truth? Unfortunately, we couldn\u2019t hop in a time machine back to the ancient days of Chicago pizza, so we decided to settle it with a vote.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, we shared a poll for deep dish vs. thin crust to see what people believed to be the real, original Chicago pizza. Finally, the results are in.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Drum roll, please\u2026.<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_456594766.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8591\" src=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_456594766.jpg\" alt=\"deep dish thin crust pizza chicago\" width=\"1000\" height=\"859\" srcset=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_456594766.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_456594766-600x515.jpg 600w, https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_456594766-300x258.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to your votes and ranking in at 58%, <strong>deep dish is the chosen winner!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It was a close call, with 42% representing votes for thin crust. But alas, deep dish was favored higher. Chicago thin crust, or \u201ctavern-style\u201d pizza, is square-cut as opposed to the New York style pie that\u2019s cut into large triangles. You\u2019ll typically find tavern-style thin crust at Chicago mainstays like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vitoandnicks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Vito &amp; Nick\u2019s<\/a>. Local hot spots like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pizanoschicago.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Pizano&#8217;s<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loumalnatis.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Lou Malnati&#8217;s<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/giordanos.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Giordano&#8217;s<\/a> are known for their deep dish, or &#8220;stuffed&#8221; pizzas.<\/p>\n<p>So there you have it. Popularity of deep dish doesn&#8217;t go to show that it&#8217;s only for tourists, and thin crust isn&#8217;t just for &#8220;real&#8221; Chicagoans. They both have a history here. Whether you&#8217;re a local or not, you can enjoy deep dish or thin crust without feeling out of place.
