Of course, how restaurants and guests act will be very different than pre-coronavirus. The city released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicago.gov\/city\/en\/sites\/covid-19\/home\/reopening-chicago.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s2\">guidelines<\/span><\/a> that restaurants must follow if they want to reopen.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_76032\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-76032\" style=\"width: 1200px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-76032\" src=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/via-Twisted-Spoke.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"797\" srcset=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/via-Twisted-Spoke.jpeg 1200w, https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/via-Twisted-Spoke-300x199.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/via-Twisted-Spoke-391x260.jpeg 391w, https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/via-Twisted-Spoke-370x246.jpeg 370w, https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/via-Twisted-Spoke-842x559.jpeg 842w, https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/via-Twisted-Spoke-406x270.jpeg 406w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1200px) 100vw, 1200px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-76032\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo Credit: Twisted Spoke<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Here are some of the highlights:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"s1\">Contactless pickup will still be available.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s1\">People are encouraged to use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.takepayments.com\/card-readers\/\">contactless card reader<\/a> payments.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s1\">Outdoor dining will be allowed, as long as social distancing protocols are followed.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s1\">Signs regarding hygiene, social distancing, PPE, and more should be posted throughout the facilities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s1\">Employees are required to wear a face mask at all times, and guests are required to wear a mask when not seated.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s1\">Social distancing of at least six feet is still encouraged.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s1\">Employees should frequently wash their hands and disinfect the facilities. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s1\">Flexible time off is available if employees are feeling sick.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"s1\">No more self-serving drink and food stations.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">In addition, you won\u2019t be able to go out to eat with a huge group of friends. All gatherings must be limited to no more than 10 people, with only six people allowed at each table that are spread at least six feet apart. You also likely won\u2019t see any menus in restaurants \u2014 many restaurants will either switch to digital menus or fixed menu boards whenever possible.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Chicago restaurants will be a bit cleaner; employees are required to clean and sanitize the entire restaurant before opening and as frequently as every 30 minutes. Bathrooms should be monitored, cleaned, and sanitized, often.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">The state is also suggesting that restaurant owners monitor the health of their employees and recommend that employees do a wellness check before coming to work every day. The maximum number of people allowed on a patio will be dictated by how many tables can fit within the space while still adhering to social distancing rules. While there were rumors of shutting down sidewalks for patios, the guidelines don\u2019t make any mention of this. Right now, the guidelines merely suggest that whenever possible, a restaurant should set up an \u201cimpermeable barrier\u201d from the sidewalks. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Another decision that still needs to be made is what is considered an indoor space or an outdoor space. Currently, the language in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chicago.gov\/city\/en\/sites\/covid-19\/home\/reopening-chicago.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s2\">guidelines<\/span><\/a> indicates that \u201cdining areas considered outdoors include rooftops, rooms with retractable roofs and indoor spaces where 50-percent or more of a wall can be removed via the opening of windows, doors, or panels provided that dining tables are within eight feet from such openings.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">One of the main concerns of Mayor Lightfoot, restaurant owners, and Chicagoans, in general, is the city\u2019s unpredictable weather patterns. A day of rain or extreme wind might put a damper on outdoor seating availability. By allowing indoor dining spaces that can be opened to the outdoors, it might allow restaurants to resume service with minimal disruption from the weather. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\">Before restaurants can reopen, Mayor Lori Lightfoot is waiting for Chicago to hit certain health benchmarks, but it is expected to happen by <a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.eater.com\/2020\/5\/27\/21270633\/chicago-restaurant-reopening-rules-windows-50-percent-walls\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span class=\"s2\">June 10<\/span><\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Featured Image Credit: Chop Shop<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The exact date we will be able to eat at a restaurant is still unknown, but Chicago is already started to prepare for that glorious day.
