Here&#8217;s a little background on house music and its importance to the Chicago community:<\/p>\n<h2>House Music History:<\/h2>\n<p>Frankie Knuckles,\u00a0<em>the godfather of house music,<\/em>\u00a0and his club, &#8220;The Warehouse&#8221;, re-invented dance music by giving life to the genre of house music in Chicago in 1977. House music derives from disco, but integrates deep, heavy-baseline beats.\u00a0Though house music was created in Chicago, it&#8217;s true inspiration comes from European music, such as English electric pop.<\/p>\n<p>The actual terminology of &#8220;house&#8221; music came from the shortening of the club&#8217;s name, &#8220;The Warehouse&#8221;, as record stores chose to label recorded music from the club this way.<\/p>\n<p>House music was originated in the African-American community, with the ultimate goal to uplift oppressed communities of people through dance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fun Fact<\/strong>: New York City also had a very similar genre of music during this time called &#8220;Garage&#8221; music, and both the genre and the name derived from the dance club, &#8220;Paradise Garage&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><em>Learn more about house music, mixing and scratching, and other fun facts\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.univie.ac.at\/Anglistik\/webprojects\/LiveMiss\/Chicago-House\/house-text.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<h2><u>Chicago House Party Details<\/u><\/h2>\n<p>The tribute to the late Frankie Knuckles continues as Millennium Park will host the Chicago House Party this month.
