After all, beyond singing lead vocals on the rock anthem &#8220;Eye Of The Tiger&#8221; and other Survivor hits, Bickler was also the voice of Budweiser&#8217;s &#8220;Real Man Of Genius&#8221; campaign from 1999 through 2009.<\/p>\n<p>2019 brings Bickler&#8217;s first-ever solo album, <em>Darklight<\/em>. Released last month via Deko Music, the ten-track album recalls the singer\u2019s classic rock roots with a modern sound and features contributions by the likes of Ryan Hoyle (Collective Soul) on drums, Brad Smith (Blind Melon) on bass, Grammy-nominated producer Steve DeAcutis (Vanilla Fudge, Corey Glover, Vinnie Moore, Overkill) and Grammy Award-winning mastering engineer Alan Douches (Fleetwood Mac, Yes, Mastodon, Monster Magnet). Bickler toured Europe last month and has plans for more live appearances here and abroad throughout 2019.<\/p>\n<p>I had the pleasure of doing Q&amp;A with Dave Bickler about his past, present, and future. Does that ever feel weird to know that people know your voice instantly but maybe not that it&#8217;s you standing next to them?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dave Bickler: <\/strong>It is a bit strange sometimes if &#8220;Eye Of The Tiger&#8221; comes on the radio just because it\u2019s still popular after all this time! Most regular people don\u2019t know it was me on <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Real_Men_of_Genius\">the &#8220;Real Men Of Genius&#8221; commercials<\/a>, so I remain incognito!<\/p>\n<p><strong>If I&#8217;ve done my research correctly, you live in Brookfield these days. Have you always lived in the Chicago area?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dave Bickler: <\/strong>I was born in North Dakota and lived there until I was four. My family moved to Minnesota and we lived there until I was eight when we moved \u2014 my father transferred \u2014 to Naperville, Illinois, about 35 miles west of Chicago. I currently live in Westchester County, New York, about 35 miles north of New York City. I guess 35 miles is a good distance from the big cities! I still have family in Illinois so go back from time to time. Go Bears!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Without Chicago area bands, classic rock radio playlists would be pretty light. Any idea why so many prominent bands are from the area? Was there a particular radio station, manager or record label that was instrumental in making that happen?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dave Bickler: <\/strong>Well, Chicago did have a good live music scene back then in the \u201980s and the local media covered it. The <em>Illinois Entertainer<\/em> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wlup.com\/the-loop-lives-on\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the Loop, 98 FM<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you have a favorite restaurant in Chicago?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dave Bickler: <\/strong>I did like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/Restaurant_Review-g35805-d1993533-Reviews-Nick_s_Fishmarket_Grill-Chicago_Illinois.html\">Nick\u2019s Fishmarket in Chicago<\/a>. John Kalodner used to take us there when he came to town. It\u2019s closed now, unfortunately.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Darklight<\/em> is your new solo album. How long did you spend making it?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dave Bickler: <\/strong>Well, longer than I would\u2019ve liked! The process required multiple trips to L.A. to get drum tracks and various other logistical things \u2014 eight-plus years! The new one is well along as far as songs go. I have all my people in place now so I \u201chope\u201d by the fall.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you have a favorite song on <em>Darklight<\/em>?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dave Bickler: <\/strong>I like all of my children!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there something you wish more people knew about Dave Bickler?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dave Bickler: <\/strong>Yes! I love dogs.
