{"id":41319,"date":"2019-03-15T12:43:49","date_gmt":"2019-03-15T17:43:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/?p=41319"},"modified":"2020-06-23T09:46:23","modified_gmt":"2020-06-23T14:46:23","slug":"south-loop-metra-rails","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/south-loop-metra-rails\/","title":{"rendered":"South Loop Might Be Getting a Major 34-acre Development Above the Metra Rails"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/lincoln-yards-concert-venues\/\">Lincoln Yards<\/a> has been under hot debate for the past few years and <a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.curbed.com\/2019\/3\/14\/18263765\/lincoln-yards-approved-city-council-emanuel-tif\">just approved<\/a> by Chicago City Council, another developer has swooped in and proposed an even grander idea, one that might change the face of the Near South Side.<\/p>\n<p>One Central is a 34-acre megadevelopment proposed by\u00a0Wisconsin-based developer Bob Dunn that would run above the Metra rail yard along Lake Shore Drive near Soldier Field. We&#8217;re also hoping to see a Lake Shore Drive pedestrian path that would connect Soldier Field and Museum Campus from the South Loop.<\/p>\n<p>Since all of this planning is still conceptual, it would need to go through several approval\u00a0processes before it even reaches City Council for final approval. The initial multibillion-dollar proposal raised several concerns about neighborhood complaints since, even once approved, the plan would take over 15 years to complete.<\/p>\n<p>Stay tuned to
