As we reach the middle of Pride Month, let’s give some spotlight to our amazing art community! If you haven’t checked out our womxn artists to follow<\/a> list, make sure to hop over after reading this! Now, without further ado, here are the top Chicago queer artists (and collectives) we think you need to follow immediately if you consider yourself cool and passionate about the local art scene!<\/p>\n

Moises Salazar<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n

Moises Salazar is a non-binary multidisciplinary artist from Chicago. Through their bold and captivating works, Salazar explores identity and queerness, and creates a powerful tool for representation of all people and social change. By using vivid colors and symbolism, their art examines intersectionality of race, ethnicity, nationality, gender, and sexuality. Nationally, their work has been exhibited at Woaw Gallery, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Kohn Gallery, and the Chicago Cultural Center.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Britteney Black Rose Kapri<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n

By using a unique blend of vulnerability and resilience, Britteney Black Rose Kapri\u2019s poetry explores a multitude of different themes. Through her expression of Black womanhood, sexuality, identity and social justice, Kapri creates a space through her work that engages with marginalized communities. In her award winning book, \u201cBlack Queer Hoe\u201d, Kapri works through challenging topics of sexual exploitation, sexual freedom, and women\u2019s sexuality as a whole. As a Chicago native, Kapri is an alumni of the <\/span>Young Chicago Authors<\/span><\/a> organization, and works now as a teaching artist fellow.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fatimah Ashgar<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n

If you\u2019re looking for powerful poems that evoke emotion about real-life events, check out Fatimah Ashgar. Through bold language, explosive themes, and recollection of their own life, Ashgar\u2019s poetry will force you to feel emotions and think deeply about the meaning of their work. Ashgar commonly calls upon their own experiences of being a Pakistani-American Muslim in a world shaped by intersectionality. Popular works by Fatimah Ashgar include \u201c<\/span>When We Were Sisters<\/span><\/a>\u201d, web series \u201c<\/span>Brown Girls<\/span><\/a>\u201d, and their debut book of poems, \u201c<\/span>If They Come for Us<\/span><\/a>\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
