The\u00a0Marriott Theatre,\u00a010 Marriott Dr. in Lincolnshire,\u00a0is kicking off the New Year with\u00a0WEST SIDE STORY,\u00a0the revolutionary Tony Award-winning musical that forever changed American theater, previewing\u00a0Wednesday, February 2, opening\u00a0February 9 at 7:30 p.m., and closing\u00a0March 27, 2022. Experience the passion\u00a0and heart-pounding excitement of\u00a0WEST SIDE STORY\u00a0like never before. Directing the production is\u00a0Victor Malana Maog, a critically-acclaimed and award-winning veteran of the stage with over 25 years of theatre experience. Musical direction is by Jeff Award winner\u00a0Ryan T. Nelson\u00a0with choreography by Jeff Award nominee\u00a0Alex Sanchez.<\/p>\n

A modern retelling of Shakespeare’s\u00a0Romeo and Juliet<\/i>\u00a0set on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in the 1950s,\u00a0WEST SIDE STORY\u00a0is the poignant tale of Tony and Maria, star-crossed young lovers caught in a turf war between rival gangs,\u00a0the Jets and the Sharks.\u00a0Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of today.\u00a0The musical\u2019s celebrated score\u00a0includes \u201cSomewhere,\u201d \u201cTonight,\u201d \u201cI Feel Pretty,\u201d and \u201cAmerica.\u201d<\/p>\n

WEST SIDE STORY\u00a0premiered on Broadway in 1957 and is the result of a collaboration between three theatrical luminaries, featuring a masterful Book by Tony Award-winner\u00a0Arthur Laurents<\/a>, Music by Tony, and Grammy Award-winner\u00a0Leonard Bernstein<\/a> and Lyrics by\u00a0Tony, Grammy, Pulitzer Prize, and Academy Award-winner\u00a0Stephen Sondheim<\/a>.\u00a0<\/i>The smash-hit 1961 film version of WEST SIDE STORY won 10 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and catapulted the musical to the center of the national conversation. A new film version was recently opened by director Steven Spielberg. From the first notes to the final breath, WEST SIDE STORY is as powerful, poignant, and timely as ever.<\/p>\n
