CHICAGO<\/b> (Nov. 18, 2015) \u2013 Broadway In Chicago is pleased to announce casting for the return engagement of Disney’s The Lion King<\/b>. The World\u2019s #1 Musical will leap onto the stage of the Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W Randolph) from December 2, 2015 to January 17, 2016.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Aaron Nelson<\/b>, who plays \u201cSimba\u201d, is a Chicago native and first saw The Lion King<\/i>\u00a0at Broadway In Chicago\u2019s Cadillac Palace Theatre in 2005. Nia Holloway<\/b>, <\/b>who plays \u201cNala\u201d, is originally from Markham, Illinois.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cComing home to Chicago to play Simba feels like my own Circle of Life, after seeing The Lion King\u00a0<\/i>for the <\/i>first time at the Cadillac Palace Theatre in 2005 and then working with Broadway In Chicago as an usher,\u201d says Nelson.<\/span><\/p>\n

The production also features Patrick R. The Lion King<\/i><\/b>\u00a0won six 1998 Tony Awards<\/span>\u00ae<\/sup><\/span>:\u00a0 Best Musical, Best Scenic Design (Richard Hudson), Best Costume Design (Julie Taymor), Best Lighting Design (Donald Holder), Best Choreography (Garth Fagan) and Best Direction of a Musical.\u00a0 The Lion King<\/i><\/b>\u00a0has also earned more than 70 major arts awards including the 1998 NY Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Musical, the 1999 Grammy\u00ae for Best Musical Show Album, the 1999 Evening Standard Award for Theatrical Event of the Year and the 1999 Laurence Olivier Awards for Best Choreography and Best Costume Design.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The show\u2019s director, costume designer and mask co-designer Julie Taymor continues to play an integral part in the show\u2019s ongoing success.\u00a0 The first woman to win a Tony Award for Direction of a Musical, Taymor has in recent years supervised new productions of the show around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Broadway score features Elton John and Tim Rice\u2019s music from The Lion King<\/i> animated film along with three new songs by John and Rice; additional musical material by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Julie Taymor and Hans Zimmer; and music from “Rhythm of the Pride Lands,” an album inspired by the original music in the film, written by Lebo M, Mark Mancina and Hans Zimmer.\u00a0 The resulting sound of The Lion King<\/i><\/b>\u00a0is a fusion of Western popular music and the distinctive sounds and rhythms of Africa, ranging from the Academy Award\u00ae-winning song \u201cCan You Feel the Love Tonight\u201d to the haunting ballad \u201cShadowland.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The book has been adapted by Roger Allers, who co-directed The Lion King<\/i> animated feature, and Irene Mecchi, who co-wrote the film\u2019s screenplay.\u00a0 Other members of the creative team include:\u00a0 Michael Curry, who designed the masks and puppets with Taymor, Steve Canyon Kennedy (sound design), Michael Ward (hair and makeup design), John Stefaniuk (associate director), Marey Griffith (associate choreographer), Clement Ishmael (music supervisor) and Doc Zorthian (production supervisor).\u00a0Anne Quart serves as associate producer.<\/span><\/p>\n
