{"id":32195,"date":"2018-08-01T14:18:08","date_gmt":"2018-08-01T19:18:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/?p=32195"},"modified":"2018-08-02T10:10:58","modified_gmt":"2018-08-02T15:10:58","slug":"chicago-accent-least-attractive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/chicago-accent-least-attractive\/","title":{"rendered":"The Chicago Accent is the Least Attractive in America, Study Finds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new study has found that da Chicago accent is da least sexy throughout da whole United States, apparently.<\/p>\n<p>An online survey conducted earlier this month by global opinion and data firm, YouGov, has discovered that people <em>don&#8217;t<\/em>\u00a0particularly find the hallmarks of a Chicago accent charming. Of the 1,216 adults asked which U.S. region had the most attractive accent, only 2% felt that a Chicagoan&#8217;s trademark\u00a0long a&#8217;s and dull th&#8217;s\u00a0were even the least bit appealing.<\/p>\n<p>In comparison, Texas was said to have the most attractive accent with 16% of respondents&#8217; vote, New York and Boston followed up with a cool 7% each, the West Coast tailed slightly at 6%, and Appalachia \u2013 yes, Appalachia, of all places \u2013 rounded up the top five with 3%.<\/p>\n<p>And though, in reality, we can&#8217;t<em>\u00a0blame\u00a0<\/em>participants for harping on Chicago (I mean, we&#8217;ve all seen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=kBnnon_iZOM\">that SNL sketch<\/a>) we do find ourselves wondering: are we <em>really<\/em> worse than Boston?
