Cancel your New Year\u2019s Eve plans! Beginning this year, the Chicago Riverwalk will be home to a brand new outdoor, public celebration called \u201cChi-Town Rising.\u201d Eventgoers can ring in the New Year with a major fireworks show, music headliners and of course, a countdown.<\/p>\n

Chi-Town Rising will be held along the Chicago River between Michigan Ave and Columbus Drive, the \u201colder\u201d portions of the Riverwalk<\/a>. The midnight countdown will also feature a giant Chicago star rising into the night sky.<\/p>\n

“The ascending star symbolizes our collective history of meeting challenges head-on and seeing opportunities in every new adventure,\u201d said John Murray, Executive Producer of Chi-Town Rising. “And it represents our aspirations rising to embrace the New Year.”<\/p>\n

As for the fireworks, they\u2019re expected to blow Navy Pier\u2019s Fourth of July show out of the water. Not an easy feat.<\/p>\n

The experience aims to display Chicago as both a New Year\u2019s Eve and winter destination, and with attendance expected to exceed 100,000, they\u2019re well on their way already. The event will be broadcast live on NBC 5 with a predicted viewership of over one million. Audiences can expect to see celebrity guests, music, highlights from the crowd, and the obvious firework & countdown celebration. \u00a0The event is hosted by\u00a0Arena Partners, LLC, and sponsored by Corona Extra and Hyatt Gold Passport.<\/span><\/p>\n

Just announced: musical headliners American Authors<\/a> & Chicago<\/a>. Additional acts will be revealed in the coming weeks, and a full schedule is on its way as well. Check back for updates as they’re made public.<\/p>\n
