Ahh, the Crosstown Classic, the only baseball event in Chicago that can bring the entire city \u201ctogether\u201d for a weekend. And by together<\/em> I mean, \u201cpits half the city against the other in all out warfare.\u201d For some, this is life and death. For others, this is a great opportunity to stuff your face with hotdogs and drink overpriced beer all day. For us at the Genie\u2026 well, it\u2019s somewhere in between.<\/p>\n

Whether the games take place within the friendly confines of Wrigley Field or U.S. Cellular doesn\u2019t matter; you\u2019re going to see these people regardless. The good news? The more beer you drink, the funnier they become.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

1) The Statistician<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Don\u2019t make any bets with this guy. He knows Anthony Rizzo\u2019s OBP from his very first Little League season, and he\u2019s not afraid to let you know it.<\/p>\n

2) \u201cPaulieeeee\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

If he\u2019s said it once, he\u2019s said it a thousand times.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

3) Mixed Couples<\/strong><\/p>\n

He\u2019s a Sox fan. She\u2019s a Cubs fan. It\u2019s on.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

4) The Wild Card<\/strong><\/p>\n

He\u2019s rocking a Sox hat and Cubs jersey, but who is he rooting for? Probably whoever\u2019s winning.<\/p>\n

5) The Catcaller<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

You might know him better as, \u201cThe Wasted Bleacher Guy Who Yells at the Center Fielder.\u201d<\/p>\n

6) The Inevitable Fighters<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Guy 1: \u201cChris Sale sucks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Guy 2: \u201cHey man, you suck.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhack, Wham, Bonk, Blam\u2026 Thud<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

7) Two Girls Who Talk About Anything but Baseball for Three Hours<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cLike OMG, did you see Kim\u2019s new selfie?\u201d<\/p>\n

8) The Guy Who Tries to Start the Wave and Fails<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cA\u201d for effort.<\/p>\n

9) The Bleacher Ump<\/strong><\/p>\n

He critiques every single call the home plate umpire makes to the point where you\u2019re ready to buy him a mask and (not so lovingly) throw him out on the field.<\/p>\n

10) The Play-by-Play Guy<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cBet he throws a curve. Whoa, he went with a slightly different windup there. Inside corner\u2026 perfect. Oh, right in the gap. Will he get there? OMG, WHAT A PLAY!\u201d<\/p>\n

11) The Matriarch<\/strong><\/p>\n

This elderly woman wouldn\u2019t miss the Crosstown Classic for anything. It may have taken her a bit to find her seat, but she showed up three hours early anyway. The heat? What heat? She brought her handheld fan that sprays water. Let\u2019s play ball.<\/p>\n

12) The Scout<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cBryant wouldn\u2019t have gotten that one earlier in the season. He\u2019s really growing into his role\u2026 Look at where Alexei is standing. That back foot needs to come forward just<\/em> a bit. He\u2019s dipping his shoulder too.\u201d<\/p>\n

13) Mr. Cub<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

No shirt with a big \u201cC\u201d on his chest. His buddy \u201cU\u201d just went on a beer run, but \u201cB\u201d and \u201cS\u201d are holding it down.<\/p>\n

14) Mrs. Cub<\/strong><\/p>\n

She loves her Cubbies, and it shows. She has a Cubs logo painted on her cheek, and her hair is in a ponytail coming out the back of her Cubs hat. She knows more about the team than everyone in her section, and all the nearby Cubs fans love her for it.<\/p>\n

15) The Big Hurt<\/strong><\/p>\n

He\u2019s BIG. No doubt about it. He\u2019s also silent, but you can tell he\u2019s enjoying the game. The normal-sized Cubs fan next to him starts to cheer every now and then, but when looks over and sees the Big Hurt staring into his soul, the cheers are usually cut short.<\/p>\n

16) Shoeless Joe<\/strong><\/p>\n

He\u2019s passed out drunk in his seat and fans of the opposing team are drawing on his face with sharpie. Sportsmanship at his finest.<\/p>\n

17) The Ringleader<\/strong><\/p>\n

A quick look around will tell you he\u2019s outmanned and outgunned in his section, but he came here to see a White Sox win, and dammit he\u2019s gonna see a Sox win. This guy bleeds black & white, and his echoing cheers show it.<\/p>\n

18) The Pride Crew<\/strong><\/p>\n

They\u2019re kind of like the Ringleader, but there are at least five of them. Hate it or love it.<\/p>\n

19) The Sportsmen<\/strong><\/p>\n

Their clothing says they should be enemies, but these guys are buying each other beer and enjoying the game together. You overhear a few gentle barbs here and there, but it\u2019s all in good fun.<\/p>\n

20) The Hawks Fan<\/strong><\/p>\n

Nothing like showing up to a baseball game in a sweater, right?<\/p>\n
