Here\u2019s a breakdown of some of the more unique elements:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Before North Michigan Ave was known as the Magnificent Mile, it was called Pine Street.<br \/>\n\u2022 When the Michigan Ave Bridge was completed in 1920, the area quickly became a prime location for high-end stores.<br \/>\n\u2022 Arthur Rubloff, a real estate developer and early champion of the area, was the first to coin the term \u201cMagnificent Mile.\u201d He envisioned the space as \u201cthe nucleus of Greater Chicago.\u201d<br \/>\n\u2022 The <a href=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/john-hancock-center\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">John Hancock Center<\/a> was the area\u2019s first example of a large-scale, mixed-use building.<br \/>\n\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/water-tower-place\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Water Tower Place<\/a> was one of the nation\u2019s first largest vertical malls.<\/p>\n<p>Chicago Styled tells this story and more with over\u00a020 authentic ensembles from the Chicago History Museum\u2019s costume collection. The exhibit conjures memories of the Mag Mile and the people who have shopped there in the early days with pieces by noted designers Norman Norell, Adolfo, Christian Lacroix, Yohji Yamamoto, and Chanel.<\/p>\n<p>You can catch this exhibit at the museum until its closing on Sunday, August 16th. Museum hours are 9:30am-4:30pm Mon-Sat and 12pm to 5pm on Sundays.
