{"id":21055,"date":"2018-02-07T17:49:49","date_gmt":"2018-02-07T22:49:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/new-york\/?p=21055"},"modified":"2019-05-23T10:37:08","modified_gmt":"2019-05-23T15:37:08","slug":"pop-ups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/pop-ups\/","title":{"rendered":"11 Pop-Ups We Wish Would Come to NYC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From tasting <a href=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/bobs-burger-pop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bob&#8217;s Burgers<\/a> famous burgers IRL to sipping cocktails from inside the <a href=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/star-wars-bar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Galactic Empire<\/a>, pop-ups seem to be all the rage right now.<\/p>\n<p>And while we&#8217;re grateful for the ones we&#8217;ve gotten to try (<a href=\"http:\/\/gothamist.com\/2017\/04\/10\/los_pollos_hermanos_photos.php#photo-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Los Pollos Hermanos<\/a>, anyone?) we at UrbanMatter have just a <em>few<\/em> suggestions on what we think should come to New York next.<\/p>\n<p>These are the 11 pop-up bars and restaurants we&#8217;d like to see in NYC.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/stranger-things-pop-up-bar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stranger Things<\/a><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21057\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21057\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21057\" src=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/strangerthingsthumbjpg-6ab191_1280w-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"Pop-Ups that should come to NYC\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21057\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Photo Credit: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/StrangerThingsTV\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Stranger Things Facebook<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Unless you were living under a rock in the fall of 2017, you already know about the <em>Stranger Things<\/em> pop-up bar put on by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.emporiumchicago.com\/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI0L7h6eqU2QIVCShpCh3OLQ6xEAAYASAAEgJ3EvD_BwE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Emporium Chicago<\/a>. Affectionately called The Upside Down, the bar came complete with <em>Stranger Things<\/em> themed cocktails, 80&#8217;s music, and the infamous Christmas lights\/Ouija board combo from Winona Rider&#8217;s living room. Of course, that bar eventually got shut down by Netflix, but still, we can&#8217;t help but wanna see a similar set up in NYC.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/la.eater.com\/2017\/12\/7\/16746778\/twin-peaks-bar-melrose-restaurant-coming-news\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Twin Peaks<\/a><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21058\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21058\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21058\" src=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Webp.net-resizeimage-96.jpg\" alt=\"Pop-Ups that Should Come to NYC\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21058\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Photo Credit: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alphabetcityblog.com\/2016\/08\/the-real-twin-peaks-double-r-diner.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alphabet City Blog<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>LA has been lucky enough to play host to not one, but two,\u00a0<em>Twin Peaks<\/em>\u00a0pop-ups in the past year \u2013 and honestly, we&#8217;re pretty jealous. Most recently, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.melroseumbrellacompany.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Melrose Umbrella Company<\/a> transformed into a real version of the seedy, &#8220;bang bang&#8221; bar Roadhouse. Before that, a Johnny Rocket&#8217;s on Melrose had a quick stint as the infamous Double R Diner.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/the-shining-pop-up\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Shining<\/a><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21060\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21060\" style=\"width: 728px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21060\" src=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/527315-shiningbar-0.jpg\" alt=\"Pop-Ups that Should Come to NYC\" width=\"728\" height=\"468\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21060\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Photo Credit: <a href=\"http:\/\/mentalfloss.com\/article\/527315\/chicagos-shining-inspired-pop-bar-now-open\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mental Floss<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>ICYMI: Chicago&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.therookerychicago.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Rookery<\/a>\u00a0housed an unreal pop-up bar inspired by <em>The Shining <\/em>this past month, and we wanna go so bad. With a replica of the Overlook Hotel ballroom, &#8220;Redrum&#8221; themed cocktails, and even Jack and Wendy in their full, crazy, glory, we could use a little bit of this spooky fun in NYC.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/la.eater.com\/2017\/1\/17\/14298380\/princes-hot-chicken-nashville-hotville-los-angeles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Prince&#8217;s Hot Chicken<\/a><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21061\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21061\" style=\"width: 1080px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21061\" src=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/18809589_102542337017754_2818110158108884992_n.jpg\" alt=\"Pop-Ups That Should Come to NYC\" width=\"1080\" height=\"718\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21061\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Photo Credit: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BU-DzL8jwzC\/?taken-by=princeshotchicken_nashville\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Prince&#8217;s Hot Chicken Instagram<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nashville&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/princeshotchicken.com\/\">Prince&#8217;s<\/a> is the OG hot chicken restaurant in the south, and we want nothing more than for them to make a trip to New York. Though seemingly intent on staying put in Tennessee, Kim Prince <em>did\u00a0<\/em>take her family&#8217;s unbeatable chicken recipe to LA last year, so we&#8217;re keeping our fingers crossed for an east coast appearance soon.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/star-wars-bar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Star Wars Cantina<\/a><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21062\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21062\" style=\"width: 1000px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21062\" src=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Webp.net-resizeimage-97.jpg\" alt=\"Pop-Ups That Should come to NYC\" width=\"1000\" height=\"500\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21062\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Photo Credit:<a href=\"http:\/\/www.starwars.com\/news\/from-world-war-to-star-wars-the-cantina\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"> StarWars.com<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Okay, yes \u2013 there <em>was<\/em> a <em>Star Wars<\/em>\u00a0pop-up in NYC this past year. And yes, the <em>Darkside\u00a0<\/em>bar was truly a sight to be seen. But if we really want to get into the Star Wars spirit, I think we&#8217;re gonna need something a little stronger. There has been talk for years about someone opening a cantina themed watering hole (with the eponymous song on repeat, of course) but no plans have ever come to fruition. Of course, that could be a cause of Disney and Lucasfilm tightening the reigns on rights, but still \u2013 we would<em> love\u00a0<\/em>to see it come true.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonian.com\/2017\/09\/29\/harry-potter-themed-bar-dc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harry Potter<\/a><\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21063\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21063\" style=\"width: 1139px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21063\" src=\"https:\/\/urbanmatter.com\/chicago\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Screen-Shot-2018-02-07-at-3.37.29-PM.png\" alt=\"Pop-Ups That Should Come to New York\" width=\"1139\" height=\"526\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21063\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Photo Credit: <a href=\"http:\/\/harrypotter.wikia.com\/wiki\/Start-of-Term_Feast\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Harry Potter Wikia<\/a><\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Many have tried but few have succeeded at putting on a Harry Potter pop-up bar or restaurant.
