Upon his election in 1983, Mayor Harold Washington was dedicated to opening a new Public Library in Chicago, and it was named after the then-deceased mayor when it opened in 1991. The building itself is enormous, totaling 972,000 square feet when including the rooftop garden penthouse.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]First and foremost, the building is a library, meaning that you\u2019ll find the usual books to read, computers for research, and librarian help if needed.
