It is the oldest African-American art center in the U.S and one of the few surviving art centers from its era. The SSCAC promotes the legacy and future of African-American art and has been an important resource for countless black Chicago artists. It often hosts events in their SSCAC Artist Talks series as well as other art, film, and literary-themed nights.
