The Baldwin Fund’s Annual Gala held at Marriott Syracuse Downtown on Nov. 7 was an event that raised more than $250,000 for breast cancer research due to the involvement of Alec Baldwin and his brother Stephen. The event was a celebration and a call for funds to support the growth of breast cancer research in the region and it brought together donors, researchers, and advocates. The gala was a fundraising initiative to aid Upstate Medical University in fulfilling the prerequisites for National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation, which would be the institution’s way of expanding research, recruiting top scientists, and offering better patient care in Central New York.

Flight​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ cancellations amid government shutdown disrupt Alec Baldwin’s return trip

First, ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ A few hours after a great gala at The Baldwin Fund where he raised more than $250,000 for breast cancer research, Alec Baldwin was stuck with travel nightmares. As a result of the government shutdown which started on October 1, two of his flights out of Syracuse were canceled. Alec, 67, took to Instagram to say that he was very angry with the situation and that people should not fly from large airports if there is a shutdown. After multiple delays, he decided to rent a car and drive home.
The benefit concert was a very personal and emotional kind of event for the Baldwin family as their mother, Carol Baldwin, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1991. Alec revealed that after their mother got through it, she became one of the major powers in the creation of a breast cancer support program at SUNY Stony Brook. ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Carol Baldwin died in ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌2022.

Honored​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ With The Baldwin Fund’s 2025 Awards: Leaders in Breast Cancer Research and Outreach

The Baldwin Fund’s 2025 Awards presentation, in addition to the holiday cheer, was the highlight moment of the gala. These awards recognize the achievements of scientists, medical professionals, and philanthropic partners who have moved the needle in their field.
The list of 2024–2025 grant recipients also included Natalie Marie Arnold, Maria Engelbrecht, Jacqueline Stillitano, and Lorraine Stillitano. The Endowed Lectureships have been named after Nathan Doody, Alison Fineberg, and John Nolan.
The​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ She Matters program of Upstate New York received the Humanitarian Award, and the organization was represented by Linda Veit, Rachel Ryan-Osiecki, and Elizabeth Fuertes-Binde. The award recognized their energetic work in educating women about the need for breast cancer screenings and, additionally, in providing ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌care ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌accessibly.

Figum​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Laudis Award and philanthropic honors highlight Baldwin Fund gala

Ed Rogers was awarded the Figum Laudis Award in recognition of his exceptional and long-standing commitment to breast cancer research. In addition, Vincent Cioci (Luck Grove Telecom), Matt Lorenzo (Mooney Marketing Group), and Nick Ford (Limp Lizard Bar & Grill) were acknowledged for their philanthropic contributions.
Alec and Stephen Baldwin, through their antics and humor, got the live auction going again which in turn led to more people bidding for the newly made up Sandals Resorts vacation, a baseball signed by Aaron Judge, and tickets to The Tonight Show.
“My family has been impacted by this cause, so it is very close to my heart,” said Stephen. “I cannot be more proud of the great things the Baldwin Fund keeps doing. The giving that we saw at this event — both from the community and our partners — was really ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌amazing.”
