Lit Crawl Austin will celebrate its 12th year of irreverent literary programming in East Austin this weekend. A project of the Texas Book Festival and the Litquake Foundation, Lit Crawl Austin will take place on Saturday, November 5 starting at 5:30 PM, at venues on the East Side, including Easy Tiger E. 7th, Vintage Bookstore and Wine Bar, Hillside Farmacy, and Saddle Up. As always, Lit Crawl Austin is a free event and open to the public, so come on out and enjoy these bookish events.

7:00 p.m. — KAZI 88.7 FM Radio Presents: A Live Recording of the Diverse Voices Book Review Hopeton Hay’s Diverse Voices Book Review presents a conversation with National Book Award finalist Ramona Emerson (Shutter) and Ladee Hubbard, author of the the starred new short story collection (The Last Suspicious Holdout).

8:30 p.m. — EcoTheo Collective / LOGOS Presents
EcoTheo Collective is thrilled to present a Lit Crawl reading to celebrate the 2022 Starshine and Clay Fellowship. A collaboration with Cave Canem, the Starshine and Clay Fellowship honors the legacy of Lucille Clifton and supports the next generation of Black poets. This year’s fellows, Gracia Mwamba and RaJon Staunton, will read with 2022 guest judge Airea D. Matthews, an award-winning poet currently serving as Poet Laureate of Philadelphia and director of the poetry program at Bryn Mawr College. These three poets will share their work in the context of a LOGOS gathering, the liturgically-inflected reading series at the heart of EcoTheo’s programming.

6:30 p.m. — American Short Fiction Presents Dear Buffalo
Get answers to your greatest questions about life and love, straight from the pages of bold and exciting literary works. In this program, authors will offer advice to questions from ASF editorial staff and the audience by selecting (at random) quotations from their new or forthcoming books. With Jami Attenberg, Dalia Azim, Amanda Bestor–Siegal, James Hannaham, Ruben Degollado, and Adam Soto.
7:30 p.m. — Exquisite Corpse: Building a Story with the Writers’ League of Texas
Join the Writers’ League of Texas and some of your favorite authors and illustrators for this one-of-a-kind event: building a story sentence by sentence. Our special author guests will kick us off with a few opening lines to set the stage, and then audience members will keep the story going! There will be live drawing, audience participation, and in the end, we’ll see what we create together. You won’t want to miss it!
8:30 p.m. Noir at the Bar. MysteryPeople presents a round of hip, hard-boiled, nitty-gritty noir readings by crime fiction authors. With May Cobb, Meg Gardiner, Mike McCarry, Gary Phillips, Jesse Sublett, and more.

8:00 p.m. — One Page Salon. The One Page Salon
(called “the best literary evening in town” by the Austin American-Statesman) returns to Lit Crawl! Four writers will read one page from a work in progress. Hosted by Felix Morgan and Seth Meeks, and featuring Kendra Allen, Angie Cruz, Tomás Q. Morín, and Leticia Urieta.
9:00 p.m. — Librotraficantes: Banned Book Bash
Librotraficantes and allies flagrantly flout contraband prose from books that have been formerly banned, currently banned, or are so freakin’ good they are bound to be banned in the future. We will also feature words liberated from imaginations inspired by banned books. Featuring readings by Xochitl Gonzalez, Jasminne Mendez, Carmen Tafolla, and Javier Zamora. Hosted by Tony Diaz, El Librotraficante, author of The Tip of The Pyramid: Cultivating Community Cultural Capital.
