Check Out These Fun Things to Do This Winter in Austin

We may not see much snow here in Austin, but that doesn’t mean we’re lacking in fun winter activities! Whether you’re in the mood for an outside activity or something cozy indoor’s, there’s always something going on. These are some of our favorite things to do during the winter season in Austin!

Ice Skating at Chaparral Ice

2525 W Anderson Ln, Austin, TX 78757

1717 Scottsdale Dr Suite #100, Cedar Park, TX 78641

Missing the cold? Chaparral Ice has public ice skating times everyday so you can get your fill of wintery activities! The sessions are usually about 2 hours long and you can either rent skates or bring your own. Get a group together and try your hand at a few tricks!

Visit the Trail of Lights

2100 Barton Springs Rd, Austin, TX 78704

The Trail of Lights is a long-standing Austin tradition, and a must-visit at least once! This year they’re keeping it as a drive-thru, so you’ll be able to enjoy 70 displays and lighted tunnels, and 90 lighted trees made up of a total of over 2 million lights, from the warmth of your car. They’ll have all your favorite concessions from years past, but feel free to bring your own!

Play Games at Cidercade

600 E Riverside Dr, Austin, TX 78704

On those rainy, chilly, winter days, Cidercade is a fantastic place to go. For $10 you’ll get unlimited access to all their games, plus they brew their own delicious ciders (including some festive seasonal options), and they have great food. It’s a perfect way to spend an afternoon indoors, away from the cold.

Christmas Lights at 37th Street

507 W 37th St, Austin, TX 78705

The winter season wouldn’t be complete without taking a neighborhood stroll to look at some stunning Christmas light displays. Every year a volunteer group of neighbors puts together an amazing and whimsical array of festive scenes, including an adorable stuffed-animal petting zoo!

Miracle on 5th

307 W 5th St, Austin, TX 78701

Miracle on 5th is a pop-up bar that’s only ever open from the days just after Thanksgiving to the weekend after Christmas. They have a spectacular cocktail menu and are located in a 2 story event space that will make you feel like you’ve walked right into a winter wonderland!

Explore South Congress

South Congress is filled with tons of shops, restaurants, and bars — but that’s not all! In the days leading up to Christmas, during their holiday market weekend, you might just catch a glimpse of an Austinite on horseback fully dressed up like Old Saint Nick, complete with jingle bells! You’ll definitely want to stop for a picture and give the horses some pets.
