Angela​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Bassett tops AARP’s ‘Fabulous Women Over 50’ list, shares her view of aging

Angela Bassett, the Oscar nominee, has been ranked number one by AARP Movies for Grownups in their list of the 25 Most Fabulous Women Over 50. In an interview with the publication, Bassett, 67, confessed to having a bright and positive view of life and aging.
“I do not let age dictate me some limit. I am half the time not remembering how old I am,” expresses the 9-1-1 actress. “Or if it is a birthday, it is great, it is a birthday season – but how old? I don’t know. Enough of people will remind you.”
After that, she continued, “It is just putting one foot in front of the other, loving life, embracing it. And simply be aware that the best is yet to come. There is nothing that you cannot do if you put your mind to ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌it.”

Bassett, who with her husband Courtney B. Vance is the mother of 19-year-old twins Bronwyn and Slater, revealed that her love of her work is what still makes her “vibrant” of her.”
“They say if you love what you do, you never work a day. I’m still absolutely loving what I do. That’s what keeps me vibrant and is out there,” she said. “But at the same time I think a big part of it is your attitude. Only your attitude, how you see life. And I happen to have a very positive one.”
The 25 Most Fabulous Women Over 50 list by AARP’s Movies for Grownups, besides Bassett, also includes stars like Naomi Watts, June Squibb, Jamie Lee Curtis and Andie ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌MacDowell.

“The intention behind the making of this list was to bring into the limelight those women who, apart from merely succeeding in Hollywood, are in fact changing its face,” Alison Maxwell, senior executive editor of AARP.org, mentioned in a press release.
“These brilliant stars are still very much alive in their creative endeavors, they make the audience remember their performances and are teaching the whole world that aging is definitely not a thing to be kept under the folds, rather it is something to be ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌welcomed.”

In her social media post in August, Bassett revealed more of her insights about getting older.
“One of the lovely side effects of getting older is the wisdom that comes with it along with the experiences that have made you stronger but haven’t crushed you,” the Black Panther actress told Woman’s World. “The whole screw-ups that you’ve made are things you have learned and grown from, and now you are more capable of speaking for yourself and others.”
Bassett shared that she also realized that “not everything is so ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌important.”

“You can let certain things just roll off your back and life will still go on. You learn the skill of saying ‘no’ and at the same time taking care of your health and mental well-being,” she shared.
“‘No’ is a full sentence. You can have trust and belief, and then simply move on to the next thing. In that way, you have allowed the person who is asking you to have the freedom to go on and find the answer that they need, and at the same time, you have given yourself the liberty to engage in the things that you like. You’re not being selfish. You’re being ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌genuine.”
