Al Pacino’s Regret After Diane Keaton’s Death
According to reports, Al Pacino is filled with regret over the fact that he never married Diane Keaton following their off-and-on relationship that lasted almost 20 years.
Keaton, who passed away in California on Saturday at the age of 79, was the love interest of Pacino in The Godfather trilogy, and they became an item in 1974. After Keaton gave Pacino a choice and he declined to promise to get married, they separated for good in 1990.
Pacino, who is 85 now, has a source telling the Daily Mail in a report published on Sunday that he wishes he had married the late actress.

“He understands that Al Pacino will always regret that he didn’t take the chance when he was able,” said a friend of Al Pacino to the media. “In the long time after they separated, Al was constantly saying, ‘If it’s meant to be, it’s never too late for a do-over.’ But now, unfortunately, it isn’t one any more.”
“Al reflects on it and admits he never loved anyone as much as he did Diane, whom he always referred to as ‘an incredible woman,’” the friend commented.
The informant also conveyed that Pacino and Keaton had not communicated at all during the period that they had been neighbors in Beverly Hills. In giving an explanation, Pacino is quoted saying, “No talking is necessary. We did not hold back in saying everything that needed to be said at that moment.”
Diane Keaton Reflected on Not Marrying Al Pacino
Back in 2017, in an interview with the Sunday Times, Diane Keaton reminiscing about her love story with Al Pacino, she ended up saying it is the best that they never got married.
Keaton related, “I was definitely against it, I didn’t want him to propose. I just imagined that he would marry me, some day.” “I was thinking, ‘Don’t even propose — let’s just get married.’ But that never happened and that is a blessing for both of us. He would have been terribly upset,” she added.
Finally, Keaton declared that they were not the right couple. “We’re both eccentric characters—he needed a woman who was going to take care of him, I needed a man who would take care of me,” she told. “It was simply very necessary that we parted ways, said goodbye. But it was not my decision.”
Keaton’s Havoc Affection for Pacino and Different Life Paths
In an interview, Diane Keaton admitted that she fancies Al Pacino a lot after she got infatuated with him while shooting The Godfather in 1972. “I was mad for him. Charming, hilarious, a nonstop talker,” she said to People magazine in 2017. “There was something in him that was like a lost orphan… this kind of crazy idiot savant. And oh, gorgeous!”
Keaton has never been married but she later adopted two children in her 50s—daughter Dexter, now 29, and son Duke, 25. Pacino has also never married. He is a father of four: Julie Marie, 35; twins Anton and Olivia, 24; and Roman, 2.
Pacino’s Public Tribute—and Exes Grieving Keaton
In 2017 at the 45th AFI Life Achievement Award Tribute where Keaton was honored, Al Pacino, out of character, went on stage and declared to her, “You’re an artist, Di. You’re a great artist… I love you, forever.”
Pacino is reportedly not the only ex in a state of shock over her death. According to the report, Woody Allen, her former boyfriend in the early ’70s with whom she made movies, is one of the people who are “extremely distraught” at her demise.
