Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger’s Attitude to Media and Family
The husband and wife duo Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger have quite a huge collection of father’s films, so when their kids will be watching movies, at least they will have a plethora of options for a long time.
Chris jokingly said on TODAY, “There will be a time when they will understand that their dad is really a cool guy.”
The children, Lyla, 5, Eloise, 3, and Ford, 16 months, will first have to be completely tired of the box of kid movies made by their dad and the release of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will be like a huge addition of the movie collection. After that, they can simply explore their grandfather’s movies… at some point.
“Katherine is quite old-school when it comes to screens, technology, and all of that stuff, ” Chris said. “So we’re waiting.”
Besides that, actor’s 13-year-old son Jack, with ex-wife Anna Faris, joined him in Tokyo when he was promoting the Super Mario Bros. sequel and considers his dad’s PG options quite “cool.”
This, in turn, has led to Chris doing more quality family movies because “alongside just trying to entertain my kids, ” he shared with Men’s Journal, “I’m also considering making movies that are kind to the parents.”
For now, he and Katherine keep their youngsters occupied by taking them to parks and giving them lots of rec time.

Katherine Schwarzenegger’s Love for Nature and Animals
In an interview with E! News last August, Chris said that he was giving his daughters “lessons on how to dive to the bottom of the pool and pick up things”, and Katherine has been posting various springtime images of the children playing in the snow, on the beach, wandering around their garden and feeding carrots to her horse.
“Being a child in Los Angeles, I guess it is very important, especially for kids, to have a place to get dirty and wild, be with animals and in open spaces, ” the 36-year-old, who was a competitive rider, said to People in 2021. “It really helped me a lot during my childhood.”
Her 2025 children’s book, Kat and Brandy, which deals with the loving relationship between children and animals, was “inspired by my personal journey of overcoming fears as a child, ” she told Extra in November. “And now that I have three little children, it was really important for me to write a book that not only talks about fear, bravery, and courage, but also the healing power of animals.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger would be on the same page as him as the 78-year-old star of Terminator keeps at home a whole menagerie, even a miniature horse.
Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger’s Parenting Styles
“I feel like we get our fix of the chaos of animals by going to my dad’s house because he literally has a million animals inside the house, ” said the eldest of Arnold’s four children by ex-wife Maria Shriver, with a touch of humor. “Home is a little calmer for us now with just four chickens.”
However, her farm right is nowhere near a petting zoo and the 36-year-old has taken on some of her father’s ways when it comes to children, for example calling herself “traditional” in the “implementation of the chores and the strictness of the chores, ” attributing that to “probably a little bit of my father coming out, ” revealing on the Cat and Nat Unfiltered podcast in November that her dad “had no patience or excuses for not doing your chores.”
Chris, a “sensitive kid” as he calls himself, revealed on Today a few months back that his parenting style is in fact “heavily influenced” by how he was brought up. In his case dad Dan Pratt, who passed away, was a contractor and “very tough and very strict.” So he assumes that he is “a little more mindful of” the sensitivity in kids, the way he puts it, “I’m not as tough and I’m not as strict.”
Nevertheless, he acknowledged Katherine is “more of the rule enforcer.”

Juggling Mess and Family Ties in the Pratt-Schwarzenegger Family
Still, Katherine was telling People in November, “We’ve managed to communicate really well, ” which is something that “both of us from the beginning and still now when life gets hectic especially if you add more kids in a family, it’s really important to us.”
In fact, at the end of the day, she added that they “complement each other, ” saying that Chris “possesses many qualities that I don’t have, and I have certain strengths that perhaps he doesn’t have. We make a perfect team.”
Chris, 46, told Men’s Journal in 2023 that having children is “wonderful, ” “because the things you ordinarily take for granted in life are new. Later on, it’s more about relating to them as individuals and discovering what makes each one of them unique.”
Referring to their relationship, Katherine told People continuing that as husband and wife of six years they make time for “micro moments” to be with each other despite the disorder.
“We set so much importance on going out for dinner dates or couples vacations, ” she added, “but I believe just having these little times during the day that let you get together really helps the pressure of having to do something over the top. To be honest, that is actually more appropriate for this period of life.”
Building a Shared Life: From Church to Carpinteria
They were newly hitched in June 2019 and really wanted to add Lyla to their family 14 months later.
“God has a fast-forward button, ” Chris reminisced on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2023, confessing he had been “struggling and feeling really broken” after his divorce when he met Katherine in 2018. “When it is right things happen so fast. You fall in love, get married. Now we have two beautiful daughters to complete my family.”
He jokingly admitted on Fox & Friends in December that even though he was at a Hollywood church where he was picking up Jack from a program, he had noticed Katherine, “I know you’re not supposed to be, like, checking out girls at church, but I’m only human”, it took a while for them finally to go out together.
When their relationship did get underway, it was Katherine who treated Chris to a very special outing.
“We hardly knew each other, ” she said to Extra, “and he was even wondering where exactly we should go on our first date.
She decided that a leisurely drive to Carpinteria, Calif., to see her childhood horse would be an excellent way to get to know Chris better.”

Embracing “Beautiful Chaos” and Blended Family Life
First, on the dating front, Katherine mused about their initial date, “It was quite a gamble to do a five-hour drive with someone you barely know, but it gave us a lot of time for talking and getting to know each other.”
After tying the knot in January 2019, Katherine called in a step-parenting coach, as she revealed via a Parenting & You With Dr. Shefali podcast episode in July 2025, to equip herself with the necessary skills, since, as she mentioned, “step-parenting, like parenting, has no manual.”
Luckily, she has been able to work out “very well” co-parenting with Anna Faris, she said. “It requires a lot of effort, but if everybody is willing to the give work, it’s going to be productive. And ego, that definitely comes up for me, I’m not going to deny it, but I keep reminding myself that it’s not about me, it’s about the child, ”
Regarding being a mom and stepmom, in her chat with People in October she said, “I am lucky that I get to experience both and also learn and grow a lot in both of those areas.”
Of course, a deep dive into parenting for all of them was just the beginning. “It’s beautiful chaos, man, ” Chris told E! News in August about raising four kids. “Absolutely crazy, and also wonderful and I’m absorbing every moment I can when I’m home. It has been wonderful, we consider ourselves quite blessed.”
