Reggie Carroll, a touring stand-up comedian who performed at clubs nationwide, died after a shooting in northern Mississippi on Aug. 20, the Southaven Police Department confirmed. He was 52.

“Southaven officers located one male victim suffering from gunshot wounds,” authorities wrote on Facebook Aug. 23. “The officers and medical personnel provided life saving techniques but the individual succumbed to his injuries.”

Police: Incident Isolated; One Arrested and Charged as Comedy Family Grieves

The Southaven Police Department announced that Reggie (Reginald) Carroll, a 52-year-old touring stand-up comic and Maryland resident, died as a result of a shooting in northern Mississippi on Aug. 20. The authorities characterized the incident as a shooting in isolation and said that the investigation is still active.
“Southaven officers located one male victim who was shot,” officers stated on Facebook Aug. 23. “The officers and medical personnel administered the life-saving procedures; however, the individual was fatal with his injuries.” The department wrote that “one man has been arrested and charged with killing Reginald Carroll,” and appreciated the community for its cooperation.
Carroll, known for acting in the 2023 standup special Knockout King of Comedy and the 2022 film Rent & Go, was cheered up by his comedy peers. Club Mobtown Comedy paid tribute to him, saying, “Thank you for being one of the OGs who supported us early on. The Mobtown family and the Baltimore comedy community are very saddened by this loss of one of our city’s great talents. Sending our prayers to Reggie’s family.”
Comedian Mo’Nique, also, in her tribute to Carroll, said that he was “a brother in comedy,” and that life is very delicate as they pale in comparison to the laughs when she ran through memories of the late one.

In response to the news, Reggie’s brother, Jonathan Carroll, released a statement expressing gratitude to friends and supporters for their kind words and requesting privacy while the case is being looked into. “To all who have expressed condolences on the passing of Reggie Carroll, your love has been well received—thank you,” he wrote on Facebook Aug. 23, and asked people to “refrain from publicly sharing any details until we confirm all the facts.”
