Petrino first claimed that he was by himself when the accident took place; however, it was ultimately established that Jessica Dorrell, the player development coordinator for the Razorbacks, whom he had only recently hired, was there with him at the time of the accident. After Petrino’s friendship with Dorrell, a former volleyball player from Arkansas who is now 25 years old, came to light, there were worries over favoritism and conflicts of interest inside the program.

Petrino was wounded in a single-vehicle motorbike accident on April 1, 2012. He claimed to be traveling alone at first, but a police investigation subsequently showed he was riding with a female colleague. The lady turned out to be Jessica Dorrell, a former Arkansas volleyball player with whom Petrino — a married father of four at the time — had a love connection, offered her a position in the football department, and gave her a present of $20,000. Petrino was then put on administrative leave after admitting to having an “inappropriate” connection with Dorrell. He was dismissed nine days after the accident.

Petrino didn’t have much of a choice in leaving Arkansas. Petrino was put on paid leave and his behavior was reviewed when he revealed his contact with Dorrell to Long.
During the investigation, state police released recordings of a 911 call reporting Petrino’s accident. The call indicated that Petrino did not want to contact the police after his accident. According to a subsequent police report, the Razorbacks’ coach inquired whether he had to reveal the identity of the passenger on the bike with him. Long would not say what it was for, but he did say Petrino and Dorrell both verified the $20,000 payment.

Over many decades, Petrino has served as a coach for a total of a variety of clubs. The year 1983 marked the beginning of his career as an assistant coach at Carroll (Mont.), while the year 1984 marked his arrival at Weber State. Beginning in 1987 and continuing through 1988, he served as the offensive coordinator at Weber State, and from 1985 to 1986, he was employed by Carroll (Montana).
He served as the head coach of the Louisville Cardinals from 2003 to 2006, and then he went on to spend the 2007 season working as an assistant coach with the Atlanta Falcons. Petrino was the head coach of the football team at the University of Arkansas from 2008 to 2011. In 2013, he attended Western Kentucky for a short period; nevertheless, he returned to Louisville in 2014 and remained there until 2018. He most recently served as the head coach of the Missouri State Bears, a position he held from the years 2020 to 2022.
The year 2003 marked the beginning of Petrino’s tenure as a head coach at Louisville, where he had previously spent one season away from the sport of football. In 2013, Petrino was hired by Louisville after spending one season at Western Kentucky. In 2007, he left Louisville to coach the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons, a job that lasted just 13 games due to the Michael Vick dogfighting incident. With a 3-10 record, he departed Atlanta to accept the Arkansas position.
Apart from his year at Western Kentucky, Petrino has also coached at Missouri State and Louisville from 2014 to 2018. He served as Fisher’s offensive coordinator at Texas A&M this season, directing a team that finished fifth in the SEC in scoring offense and ninth in total offense. Petrino was not hired by incoming Texas A&M coach Mike Elko, who was named Fisher’s successor on Monday.
