Disasi led all Chelsea defenders with 422 passes into the attacking third last season – only three could match his output! His forward-thinking distribution allows him to facilitate transitions that propel Chelsea forward while also possessing physical attributes necessary to defend against pacey strikers.
Disasi excels at aerial duels and boasts impressive success rates; in 2018, he won 97 of his 138 aerials in Ligue 1, making him the sixth-best defender who participated in at least 65 aerials. Furthermore, his strength and height allow him to occupy space directly in front of strikers. He can either outmuscle them or intercept the ball before it reaches its intended goal.
Pochettino has made it his priority this summer to strengthen his defense, with Fofana set to miss most of 2023-23 due to a knee injury sustained at Paris FC. Disasi will step into his former teammate’s place at center-back alongside Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah and Levi Colwill. Further, joining fellow defenders Thiago Silva, Trevoh Chalobah and Levi Colwill who all already reside within Pochettino’s squad.
