Lately, it seems like everyone is talking about e-scooters. These popular devices have quickly become a popular way to get around, especially in cities where traffic can be a nightmare. E-scooters, like those you can purchase at Pro Electric Scooters, are environmentally friendly, easy to use, and relatively inexpensive, making them a great option for those who are looking for an alternative to driving. In addition, e-scooters are often faster than walking or biking, which means that they can help you save time when getting from point A to point B. Whether you’re looking for a new way to commute or just want to try something different, e-scooters are worth checking out.
If you’re a regular e-scooter rider, you know that flats happen from time to time. But don’t worry – even if you’re not mechanically inclined, there are some tricks you can use to fix the problem and get back on the road. Taking scooter precautions may not be enough to avoid flat tires. The only solution to flat tires is to replace the punctured tire. The process is complicated, but you can get it correctly with basic knowledge. You can get on with the situation and deal with the flat tire yourself. In this blog post, we’ll share three simple ways to deal with flat tires on your e-scooter. So read on to learn more!
1. Carry a spare tire with you at all times
Tires are important in a scooter and other vehicles. However, not everyone carries a spare when making a trip. Your tire makes the vehicle move, creates comfort, and rides over obstacles and rocks. The tires maintain the scooter’s balance while riding. When you have a flat tire, then you’ll understand the importance. Tires are why you can glide smoothly on sidewalks, roads, and trails. They are also the reason you travel for miles on a charged battery. They also determine the scooter’s speed, how fast they accelerate from point A to B, and how you make a smooth corner. The tires determine every movement of the scooter, and having a spare can avoid the struggle of carrying a scooter to your destination. Some scooters come with a place you can position your spare tire, while others will have to be manually attached. Having a spare to replace the flat one is the only option to avoid folding your device before reaching your destination.
2. Know how to change a flat tire
Changing a flat tire is easy if you know how. You have to release the remaining air from the flat tire. The tire’s valve has to be unscrewed; press the valve inside with an Allen key to release the air.
- Remove the remaining air using the Allen wrench. The key is meant to unscrew the valve. Afterward, press the valve inward to release the remaining air. It is challenging to have a specific method for all models of scooters. But the common method is to
- Remove the plastic cover on the wheel.
- Use an Allen wrench key to deflate the tire. The key is normally included with the scooter on purchase.
- Use the appropriate wrench to loosen the nut on both sides of the wheel to remove it.
- Removing the fork from the wheel can be tricky because any mistake can scratch or damage some parts.
- Use tire levers to remove the tire halfway. Some people apply water with dishwashing soap to make the tire slippy for easy removal.
After removing your tire, check the damage. If the damage is too big to be fixed, you will need a new tire. Either repair or buy a new tube; you have to clean the inside of the tire and wheel to remove debris. Now it’s time to replace or return the tire.
- Ensure the tires are replaced the same way you removed them. Make sure the direction is the same.
- Place the tube between the wheel and the tire by starting with the valve
- Tire levers are there to help position the tire on the wheel.
- Inflate the tire and make sure the tire is not leaking. Also, gauge the tires to verify the pressure recommended for scooters.
After putting it back in place, tighten every piece but allow space for spinning. The wheel should be allowed to spin freely.
3. Have the right tools for the job
The right tools will make the job easy. Some tools are meant for this situation. The good news is that these tools are popular and can easily be gotten. The scooter also comes with some essential tools, such as
- A small screwdriver set
- A spanner set
- Wrench or Allen key set
- A rotary tool
- A picking tool (for trims)
- Tyre levers
- A pump to inflate the tire
- An inner tube to replace a pneumatic damaged tire
These tools can be carried in a toolbox. If you can’t carry it all, the Allen wrench key is an important tool to have in your bag if you own a scooter.
